non-stop barking at night Hoooww can i get him to stop? Sometimes it will last until 4am. He's almost a year old.. |
I must also mention this generally is the case when we walk away from him, when he sees us but we don't immediately acknowledge/go to him, at night when we head upstairs to go to bed... After all that barking, as soon as we finally acknowledge/go to him he usually stops barking. If not stop then the whole annoying process starts again. I've tried the spray bottle, which works, but that means i have to catch him in the middle of barking. How do i get him to stop barking if i am not within a squirts distance away to catch him? |
We stopped the barking with another breed of dog (Maltese) with a shock collar. The collar does NOT harm the dog. It's just like a static shock that deters the barking. We didn't have to use it for long. The training was quick and easy. |
If he stops when you go to him I would think he is telling you he does not want to be alone. Can't you put his bed next to yours? I am sure that will do the trick. He seems lonely to me. Dogs are pack animals and only want to be with us. Try it. I bet it works. |

Yeah, i figured its from being lonely but we its weird because it just started about a month ago. Before that he was fine, maybe a few nights a month where he'd whine but not until the wee hours of the morning. My parent's are strooongly against having the dog upstairs (but I will try to convince them), I'm kind of skeptical about the shock collar and although puppy shopping would be fun, it's pretty much out of the question. :S Any other stories/advice?? thx for all your help thus far. |

Why would anyone put on a shock collar to keep a dog quiet when all he wants is company? Please explain to your parents that these little dogs are like children and require company most of the time. For him to sleep in his own bed/crate next to you and hear you breathing will calm him down and everyone can get a good nights sleep. It's not the dog's fault in this case, he is trying to tell you something. Listen to him please. This is one of the easiest fixes ever. |
