Looking for a Yorkie/Jack Russell I'm new to this puppy business, all of my previous dogs have been rescues from humane society's, and the last small breed I had was a Lhasa about 20 years ago. I recently purchased an "oops" from a woman who breeds Yorkies. She also has a male Jack Russell and her Yorkie "accidentally" mated with him, the result was my Teddy Bear. He has the long hair like a yorkie, but he's black and white like a jack russell, and he appears to have gotten the best attributes from both breeds. He is adorable and extremely smart. At 15 weeks old he is completely potty trained and he can do sit, stay, down, shake hands, roll over, play dead and fetch (for treats of course). Anyway, I have several friends interested in this mix, but the breeder that i got Teddy from isn't going to breed the two anymore, as I said, he was an oops. So does anyone out there know of any breeders who are currently breeding this mix anywhere near the Hudson Valley, NY area? They are just looking for pets, not show dogs so papers aren't important, just want to be sure they aren't coming from a puppy mill or some other nasty place. |
I'm sorry, I don't know of any yorkie/jack russell breeders, but do you have a pic of your puppy? I would LOVE to see him, as I've never seen this mix before.:) |
I do have pictures of him, but I can't figure out how to post them except on my profile, it keeps telling me the file is too big. Any suggestions? |
I figured it out...here's a pic |

i saw a this mix at petsmart the other day. sry i dunno where the lady got the puppy but she was a cutie. she was really tiny and had short hair with yorkie colors/markings...probably didnt look anything like the puppy u have, but still a cutie. thats the only problem with mixed breeds u dont really know which traits they will get from each breed. but good luck! |
from the small photo you have what I would do is maybe steer them towards biewers. They have that black and whit look and are beautiful and best of all are Yorkies. |
I don't know of anyone who breeds Jack russells with Yorkies, but I do think your puppy is beautiful. |
Welcome to Yt! Have your tried, petfinder.com? Your local newspaper? Or even adoption centers, since you are looking for a mix puppy? Good luck on your search! |
why a jack russell I don't know why anyone would want to breed a jack russell with a yorkie, I have a rescue Jack Russell thats just plain NUTS. I can't begin to describe just how crazy she is, she totaly off the sane scale, If it wasn't for my hubbie she be gone. |
He's just to cute. I don't know any breeders, but if I see one on petfinder I'll pm you. |

2 Attachment(s) I took a Jack Russell / s**tzu mix away from my son and his girlfriend. They were not taking good care of her. Poor little thing. She is so ugly she's kind of cute. She gets called a little old man all the time at the dog park (she's only 2 yrs. old). It must be her beard. I didn't really want another dog but she is the sweetest little dog. Way better behaved then my yorkies. |
1 Attachment(s) I have a yorkie/jrt that actually looks nothing like yours :). That's the thing with mixes, you never know how they will turn out. I don't recommend getting a mix, most all of them are from byb's and puppy mills. Why not tell your friend about purebreds instead? |

Good luck! |
I just wanted to say your puppy is absolutely adorable. I actually have a 4 year old jack russell (my first puppy ever) at my parent's house, and now I have my little yorkie Luigi living with me at my apartment. They are both great dogs in their own ways! Bella (my JRT), is a little crazy, but she is so sweet and smart! (those dogs are sooo intelligent). Luigi is crazy too, but he's such a sweetie, more of a lap dog, and can go with me everywhere. Both are super smart and super loyal =) Looks like you got the best of 2 great breeds ;) Good luck in your search! |
Hmm, where is the picture?? I would love to see it...:D |

I know I got really lucky with him. He is VERY smart:D and he does seem to have more Yorkie traits than JRT (except for the jumping!) The breeder I got him from had all the parents on site and i got to meet them and see her house (very clean and no kennel smell at all) She had a nice little fenced in yard for all the babies (all three of them) and the parents to play in and she normally kept the JRT out because she is a yorkie breeder but he jumped in somehow. My friends were originally just looking for a small breed dog, but they fell in love with mine and thought his mix would be a good fit for them (understanding of course that they may not be as lucky as I was) But if everyone could keep an eye out either for a reputable person who breeds them (I read that they have recently become a "designer" dog), or even an "oops" like Teddy was I would appreciate it. |

And he is NUTS also. I always say it's like living with a 2 year old boy with ADHD. You have to have alot of room for them to run off the engery they have. I'm glad you rescued your pup, who is very cute by the way, but I Don't know why you'd want to mix these two on purpose but to each his own. Good Luck! |
