top knot... so, just wondering... how do you get those on? lol Frankie wont sit still and he always put his front paws in my way... anyone else have this problem? tips anyone? HELP! |
My hubby helps. ;) Eury is the same way and wiggles constantly. My hubby holds her and keeps her paws out of the way so I can get the bow on as quickly as possible. |
I have the same problem with Susanah. She absolutely will not hold still. She is more interested in playing with me, the hair bow, anything! |
I sit mine in my lap facing away from me. For some reason if I'm not staring right into their face and they can look around they stay still:) |
I get it on, but Zoey makes it her mission to rip it out as fast as possible. They literally last less than one minute. I keep trying. |
I really enjoyed reading these and the memories of how I used to do them. The best investment I made was to buy a topknot pillow. You lay you dog down on a table in front of you with the pillow around the neck (the ones that go around the neck give the dog the feeling that you are holding him). You will have to hold the dog down until he relaxes, then message him. Do this over several days and he will get to like laying in the pillow. After he likes it, then lay him down give the message and start playing with his topknot hair. Build up to doing the whole topknot. Let me know how it works for you, but it works great for me. |
Training/Practice is Everything! All 3 of mine wear "Topnots", yes even my 3 1/2 yr. old male Artie, 2 1/2 yr. old female Abigail and 11 month old Tiffany Aloha. It's all in the so called "Training". I have a Grooming Routine, that starts with; brushing their whole body, brushing their teeth and washing their eyes out with a wash cloth, dressing them (at least one wears a dress) and the last thing is to put their hair up, I do it last so they don't have a chance to pull it out. Most of the time they are so excited because this means they are going out! I also use a portable Grooming Table on top of my Washing Machine, which they are used to. The round one from Petedge.com that swivals around. As with everything with Yorkies you must "Train" them, they will get to the point when they know what to expect because you do it every day not just Special Occasions. A Routine always helps. Of course the first thing they want to do when we get Home is take it out. Good Luck! |
Practice Makes Perfect Hey - I have one of those portable grooming tables and on top of my dryer from Pets Edge - do you have the one that is pink? I use that for Izzy all the time and she is finally getting used to me grooming her on it and doing her top knot. I use the small latex bands and then put her little bow or clip in. At first she would then proceed to roll around the carpet but now after a few weeks she has gotten used to it being in her hair. This portable grooming table was one of the best investments I made - really does help with the grooming and combing that's for sure. :D |
Topknot Pillow Hi Sonja - would you get one of those pillows from let's say a Pets Edge? That sounds like a good thing to use too. Sometimes when I'm in a hurry and don't have time for the grooming table I have her sit in my legs (I sit cross-legged) and then I have her head rest on my raised leg to do the topknot. |
