What color do you think she is/will be? 4 Attachment(s) Hi everyone, I've attached some recent photos of Lucy, her coat seems to be changing pretty fast and I was wondering what everyone thought her adult colors might be, I know its hard to tell but thought I'd get some expert opinions. On her papers it says she is black and gold...but I think she looks lighter than gold. I've also attached a picture of my family yorkie Mazie she has more of a different shade of hair I was wondering what color everyone thought she was she has a bit of a reddish tint. the first pic is when on July 25, the second is 7/12, the third is mazie and the fourth is from 7/1. Lucy was born on April 10th |
she is going to be very pretty...that's all i know :) |
aww thanks. She is getting so big she is about 3.5 pounds and about 17.5 weeks old. I just didn't know if anyone had a yorkie with that color face. It just seems so light to me. |

Oh gotcha that makes since. I'm think her parents colors were listed at Black and Gold as well. But I just thought Gold was usually a much richer color and tan was lighter. So thought I would ask. Any idea what color Mazie (the third picture) is, I would say Gold but she has those little reddish tints. |
Awww! She is beautiful - she looks like my yorkie from when I was little, Chelsea. Chelsea was Gold and black! |
If I had to guess: Her coat will have a wave to it and will be more on the softer side. Her coloring will be light (light gold, light blueish silver), but w/ correct markings. |
coat I do not agree about it being soft..her eye flash is a nice cool green...her head is light and clearing nicely..and will deepen with age..I see her a more light to medium steel and gold. |
light gold-same as what I said and the steel is a blue....but I'm still thinking it will lean toward the silver side around two-ish. I don't know what you didn't agree on since we said the same thing. (except the medium steel). My girl has green flash and has the silkiest coat ever. I'm thinking that if more pictures were taken of this pup here, that you'd see more blue creep in there. Please keep us posted w/ pics as your cutie grows! |
Wow thanks for all the replies and don't worry I will keep you posted on new pictures. She is getting groomed for the first time on Saturday so I will def. be posting pictures when she is finished with that. I am hoping that her gold color will deepen as she gets older, her paws are a deeper gold/tan than her face so I'm hoping that her face will develop into that shade. Her eyes generally flash green with maybe a slight hint of amber, does that mean she will be a silky or a cottony coat? I know my dog max eyes flash an amberish and he is more silky but i thought i read somewhere that green meant silky. |
I'm not sure, but whatever color it turns she'll be beautiful. |
1 Attachment(s) Sallen, green is pretty consistent of silky coats. A lot of amber flashes I've seen tend to have a little wavy and sometimes even curl to their coat w/ a soft and somewhat thick coat (not cottony). |
1 Attachment(s) Her face does look light. She's very pretty and looks like she has a nice, thick coat. Jake's face has gotten much lighter, he's kinda reddish blonde with silver, as you can see from the pic. |
she is the color "pretty" |
K9trainer..I did not agree on the word "softer"..I do not see a soft coat, but a potentially silk coat. Soft is a word used in conjunction with a cotton coat.. |

I wish there was a magic calculation of determing their coats. But Yorkies are just full of suprises, aren't they? And after our first grooming, the color really seemed different. It'll be really fun to see how she looks after her grooming!! |
Just for clarification, when I use the word "soft" I don't mean cottony. If I meant "cottony", I'd say cottony. By soft I meant not silky, but soft, not w/ a lot of undercoating and perhaps wavy. Just a guess. She's pretty either way, now I can't wait to see what her coat looks like in due time. |
Adult color of my puppy 2 Attachment(s) I know there are a lot of people on this site with years of experience with yorkies...and that's great b/c I have none! I just got this yorkie 6 weeks ago and I love her to pieces. Everyone keeps telling me that she is, "so dark," and I am wondering if anyone can offer an opinion as to how much she will lighten up/ what color she will be as an adult. I was told by the breeder that her parents were both black and gold. I love her dark, but I will love her any way she is. I am just curious. The first picture of Lily is at 9 weeks and the one in the T shirt is at 15 weeks right after she got groomed. Her head sees to be lightening a tiny bit, but her back color hasn't changed. |
her face has those white roots from what it looks like skoshi looked like he had like thin hair on his head but if you looked real close it was white roots and it blended in with his scalp so it looked funny. but i knew his face would be light. i think your pups face will be light too |
Lily42807- I'd say Blue and Tan |
1 Attachment(s) Ya know i saw what looked like white or really really light blonde on her scalp, but her face doesn't have any of those hairs. She was just shaved at the groomer 2 days ago so the pic is a little misleading over the bridge of her nose . Her back is super black though, and so is the skin below it. This pic is from a week ago. I am secretly hoping she stays on the dark side. Also do you know any way to approximate adult weight? Here dad was 3.3lbs and her mom was a hair under 5lbs. She was 1.9lbs at her 9 week appt and 2.2 at her 3 month (but they said some of it might have been her hair b/c it was super long hahah). |
Another guess? I'd say her weight is going to be closer to her mother's weight. "Just the perfect size"! ;) imo |
|
Sonja, thanks for the link. Isn't it odd and yet fun to read? Makes sense! ;)  |
Now that I look again I think she's a tan and black, but looks like she'll turn silver. Just what I think. |
2 Attachment(s) wow usually my posts never stay alive very long I was shocked to see this up on the front page this morning haha. Anyway here is an updated picture of Lucy, she had to be shaved :( so all of her cute little black puppy fur is all gone, and she's gaining weight like crazy, I think she had a growth spurt because she gained a little less than a pound in 2.5 weeks  She now weighs about 4.5 pounds at 21 weeks, I think i might have a teapot on my hands, which is just fine with me because I love Lucy no matter how big she is! Anyway here are some of the pictures of Lucy after she had to be shaved. Still can't tell what kind of coat, her fur around her face seems silkier like my dog max who has a silky coat but her body I just can't tell I think it could be between the two silky and cottony, but I don't know. |
Whatever her size, I can tell you that the weight you have her at now is PERFECT on that frame of hers! Keep up the good work momma! ;) |
