Injured eye from scratching or groomer? I just noticed today that there was something wrong with LeeLee's eye because she continues to squint her right eye. I looked in her eye and it is scratched in the inner corner which makes me think the groomers did it. I took her Friday to get groomed at Petco so I don't know if they cut her eye while cutting the hair on her face or if she scratched it herself. She is going to be spayed tomorrow and I will ask the doctor about it. I'm sure she is in pain but I don't know what to do for tonight. Is this something that will clear up with an eyedrop or will it go away on its own? |
I would tell the vet about it tomorrow, so he can give her some medicine for it...:) |
Reggie (our Shi Tzu) has had scratches on his eye from playing with the other dogs. Their eyes are so exposed because of their short noses, that it's easy to do. A few eye drops from the vet should take care of it. You have that adorable Shorkie, right? So his eyes would be more vulnerable too. Reggie is a little gun-shy around his eyes as he's had a few scrapes. He doesn't like anything getting too close...... Good luck with the vet visit! |
The vet should be able to give you something. When this happened to Nomi we used Vetropolycin ( a really goopy cream) for 10 days. Good luck with this. |
It's scratched in an area of the eye that is not exposed which is why I couldn't tell until today which is making me doubt she did it herself. She is out for the night so I guess she'll be okay until the morning. |
I'm always surprised mine haven't been nicked at the groomers more. They're both really wiggly for me anyway!! |
If it happened at the groomers she would have been squinting when you picked her up most likely. |
Good Point. Unless it just kept getting more irritated as time went on. Do you have any other pets that could have been playing with LeeLee? |
Our old groomer scratched Tilly by her eye while trimming her once. She told me about it though and Tilly is pretty wiggly so I didn't think much about it. Maybe you can go back and ask that groomer if so happen they remember scratching her, they probably wouldn't admit it now though....:( |
hmmmm My experience with Nomi was her squinting and then it started having a discharge by the next morning. By that evening of the second day it was pink. I don't think we saw any signs of an infection right after going to the groomers. I don't know if that tad bit helps or confuses more though .... either way the vet should know how to treat it. |

Again with her short nose, she could have even done it herself scratching. But since she'll be at the vet tomorrow under anesthesia, he'll be able to get a really good look at it. So sleep easy tonight, she'll need some tender loving care when she gets home. Coby gets neutered next month; that'll be a long day for me!! :( |
Oh and by the way, I was describing LeeLee to my daughter.... picture Reggie's (our Shi Tzu) face and body build in the beautiful colors of Coby (our Yorkie)!! How precious. |
