Taking your baby in stores with you? Everyone has been talking about if they can take their babies in certain stores. Wel.. I know that if you do Petsmart pet training, 3 levels like a beginner, intermediate, and advanced, then after those 3 you can go and take a test, through petsmart, and they will give you a certificate where you can WALK, CARRY, your babies in stores. The only stores you can't go in is food, but anywhere is you just show then your form, and there you go. :D I am sure that other pet training places do this also. |
I have never heard of such a thing. Not being a fan of Petsmart, I would assume that a paper from Petsmart saying they passed training wouldn't mean an automatic allowance into other stores, any store would be able to refuse. |
Izzy....queen of Lowe's Well - I'm not a fan of Petsmart either but I have taken Izzy in her little bag to places like Lowe's, Target, furniture stores, greenhouses, etc. I would not take her anywhere where there is food, etc. No one really even knows she is in her little bag unless someone really looks inside by the mesh door. People just think I am carrying a handbag, plus she is very quiet and sits nice in her carrrier until someone does notice and then she is all over that and wants them to pet her. :animal-pa Or they figure out something is in the bad when they see this nutty lady talking to her handbag. :eek: |
I think the test you are refering to is the Canine Good Citizen test. Passing this test mainly shows your dog is well behaved and well trained but it doesn't guarantee that you dog will be allowed to go into any store. The only way a dog is allowed to go into any store is for it to be a Service Dog because it's illegal to refuse entry to a service dog anywhere. |
This is what I was going to do with Aubrey. Its not a service dog test. Petsmart does this, you just have to go through the 3 types of classes. Next time I am in Petsmart, I will ask what its called. |

Ha - no she never gets sick - she only gets impatient and will bark softly in her carrier if I stay in one place to long....mom....get going or take me outta here. :D I bet your baby is getting sick from the car - but I heard that feeding animals ginger settles their stomach where they won't get carsick. :animal-pa |

You can get fresh ginger root in any grocery store - just peel it with a veggie peeler (it has brown papery skin covering the fleshy meat inside). Then just feed a tiny piece and should settle stomach. If she doesn't take it fresh then hide it in a piece of cheese or something she likes. Heck - no - I am a pretty fast walker - so she gets tumbled around in that carrier of hers when I'm on a shopping mission. :p |

Some dogs like the taste of the ginger but then again some like it wrapped in a small piece of cheese to mask it. :-) I would think that your booster seat or your travel kennel should be fine. I couldn't think of anything else that would upset the tummy unless he wasn't feeling well that day to begin with - and that can happen. |
Not sure about the Petsmart certificate, but one that says you need a dog for medical reasons is acceptable. I know of people that have a certificate that says their dog is a "Therapy Dog", so they are allowed to bring their dog anywhere. I personally bring Munchkin to a lot of places, but we will keep her in her Juicy purse if we go to dinner. Never been asked to leave. |
