Question I have been offered a free white toy poodle, that is about a year old. She is the sweetest dog. My yorkie does like her. Does anyone here have a toy poodle? If so have you had any health problems with them? I wanted a Maltese, but I may take the poodle. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks |
our MeeMaw has a toy chocolate poodle, she is GREAT! she is always happy, LOVES to play and has not had any health problems.. the only thing she ever had is that she broke her front leg when she was a baby, jumped off the bed... but since this one is older that shouldnt be a problem for you. I love Poodle personalities... good luck! d |
:) I had a toy poodle years back and he was precious and very very smart. If you can give him a good home that would be wonderful. |
My parents have an 8 yo tiny poodle that plays well with her Biewer sister after being an only child for all her life. Have fun with the poodle. |
We had a toy poodle quite a few years ago. They are really smart and so easy to train to do just about anything. |

Thanks for all the replys. I think she is a toy, she weighs nine pounds. |
My Grandma had a toy poodle - she was so ahead of her time - she used to have clothes and everything for her ....this is years and YEARS ago - I remember her as being VERY Smart - and very loyal to my grandma - sadly she was attacked by a big dog as they were getting out of a car and my grandmother was never the same and passed shortly after - she loved that little dog so much. |
I've heard poodles are very smart, family dogs.....as with any small breed they still have teeth issues just like yorkies, they have to be brushed and taken in for cleanings periodically...but I don't think you can go wrong w/ a poodle...:) |

Back to the original question...My mother also had one that I grew up with and like has already been said, extremely intelligent. |
My grandmother use to have 2. And she said they are the best dogs. Thats great that you are going to give the dog a new home! |
Poodles are very smart and from my limited experience generally are easy to get along with. The problem is going to be convincing your Yorkie furkid to be a good citizen with his new Poodle sibling. Good luck with what ever decision you make. |
I have a little black poodle and she's just darling. No health problems, and it's hard for them to get fleas because of that curly hair. Go for it. You'll love her. |
My sister has two and they are very smart and she said they are a blast,so palyful and fun! Go for it! |

I had a little toy poodle growing up. Her name was Ebony and she was absolutely the best dog. I loved her so much and it broke my heart when she passed away. I say go for it  |
My first dog was a poodle I acquired after her elderly mom passed away. She was 1 when I got her. She had lived mostly in her crate and rarely got to play outside because of her mommy's pulmonary condition. She didn't even know her name. She was such a sweet baby. I got a 3yr old yorkie 1 week later and they got along great. My only problem with my Chloe was that her bond to me was VERY strong. I had her at a family christmas gathering and I forgot a present back at my house so I left for 10 minutes to run back and get it. When I got back they told me she stood at the door and cried unless someone held her the whole time. She was very smart, easily house trained, got along well with other dogs. But she loved her momma, more than anyone or anything. Congratulations on your new baby!! They are a wonderful little dog. She never had any health problems. |
I grew up with toy poodles. We had 2 and my Grandmother had one. They are wonderful, smart, sweet, laid back little dogs. We had no health issues. I would take it in a heartbeat if I were you. Good luck with whatever you choose. |
We have decided to take her. She is at my house now and she is doing very well. She loves my kids and she plays very well with my Yorkie. We are not so crazy about her name Portia. I think we may try to change it to Sophie, if we can. She is a lap dog and she likes to play too. I would love to post pictures of both of my dogs. I have tried to do it before and I don't know if I can't get my pictures the right size or what the problem is. I am not real computer literate. I will try again. Thank you all so much. |
Congratulations!!! I know you will not be sorry! We can't wait to see pictures!!:D |
Congrats on getting her..the name change will be fairly easy I would imagine. And with pictures the key is resizing them to the proper size...I have a hard time explaining it to people but maybe someone else will be able to give you better details!! Dawn |
