Saying Hello Hello everyone! I'm Lauren, from Nebraska, and I recently purchased my first yorkie. I'm quite excited really. I have a few friends who can nothing but good things about them. He's a little boy so it's challenging getting the house breaking bit down. So if you can lend any suggestions about that, I and Newie would greatly appreciate it. Again, I look forward to hearing/reading/learning about our fabolous dogs, the Yorkshire Terrier. :p |
" Welcome " to YT, Lauren.:welcome4: You will love it here. :) |
Glad you joined. You'll love it here. |
welcome !! looking forward to getting to know you and your baby. |
Hi Lauren and welcome to YT! Sorry, I'm not much help as my CJ was just a little over 4 months old when I got him and was already potty pad trained by his mommy and "grandma". My girl, Fancy who is almost two still makes a mistake once in a while. How old is your puppy and do you want to train him to go outside or potty pads? If you go to search, you will find many housebreaking tips along with everything you'll need to know about caring for your new baby. Looking forward to seeing pictures... We love pictures! |

WElcome to YT! It took me about 3-4 months to housetrain my little boy, and not that I have a little girl, hopefully it will take a lot sooner, now that I know what to look for! Congrats on your baby! |

welcome hi lauren, welcome.i'm a newbie too.my boy is 7 yrs old but how i remember house breaking.it took 9 full months & a trip to the vet to see if he was ok.the vet said diagnosis was "yorkie".very hard to potty train.but with lots of positive reinforcement we did it.no accidents in years.it took lots of patience.no spankings but lots of rewards for getting it right.good luck & congrats on getting your first.you'll be so glad you got him & wonder why you waited so long.i know that's how i felt. |

Welcome to YT! |
Welcome Welcome. I just rejoined after a hiatus for a while. We have a new 5 month old "boy", so we're still on potty training. But Coby is doing GREAT. My strategy is to make it as hard as possible to make a mistake. He's been confined to the kitchen to cut down on my stress with accidents as well as the "recurring" and cleaning problems if they pee on the carpet. Then we watched him like a hawk. Lots of praise for the successes and no punishment for the accidents (he actually had accidents in his kennel for the first several weeks until he could hold it long enough). Now, he's getting to branch out room by room. I keep a leash on him, so I don't lose sight of him. Now it's sort of like starting over because we walk back to the puppy pad or outside every 30 minutes or so to remind him that he has to take a longer walk and go somewhere else to pee. But it's paying off. Because he's a boy, I wanted to MAKE SURE that we didn't even start the marking problem with some accidents. So far so good. If he does go on the paper and no one sees him, he barks until someone gives him a treat. (Our Shi Tzu is 10 years old and still tells us he needs a treat for pottying in the right place. They know the score!!) Good luck and keep us informed. In case we have a set back, I may need more pointers myself!! |
Welcome:) Sorry, I have two girls so I won't be very helpful with housetraining a boy:o |
