Health scare
 

:confused: Hi, I wanted your opinion on a health scare I had with my six year old girl, Rubi. It has happened to her twice, 16 months apart one from the other. The first thing I noticed the first time was that she couldn't walk alright. It was like she had wobbly legs, like they walk when they are waking from the anethesia. She was real scared, with her eyes wide open and back and fore legs rigid and stretched out front. Her mouth was a little clampled and her gums palid. I thought she was having a seizure of some kind, like an epilectic attack or so. I called the vet but he was not sure what was wrong with her. The episode lasted around 20 minutes. When it was over, she was herself again, and was feeling happy and hungry.
Then, a couple of months ago. She had another episode like this but this time, she could walk a little better but her head turned to one side. I was real frightened because I thought she was dying now. It lasted shorter than before. She got her head right in a minute or so and she had skaky legs for a few minutes but she was not as scared as with the first episode. Again I consulted the vet but he does not know.
Rubi is a very healthy girl. She has had three litters without any problems at all. In fact, the third litter was born during the 16 month span separating both attacks.

Wow I dont know. Sounds like it could be a seizure. Maybe she is having some kind of muscle spasms or something?????I wish I could help. Maybe someone else on here can say so I will bump this up for you.

What is her weight?

Cali and Pixie both had episodes like that that could not be explained. Pixie's was just a month ago and they thought some bad neurological problem but she was fine the next day. Same with Cali. Both times they woke up from a nap like that and it was like they were on drugs, walking stiff, falling over and like they weren't sure where the floor was when they put their feet down. Cali's was 1 1/2 years ago and no furter episodes. I wish I knew what it was also. Hopefully she won't have anymore episodes and mine either.

Could be a bit of hypoglycemia. Had it been very long since she had eaten either time? Did she drool any?

I would get her tested - and if she's having seizures - that can be passed on to her puppies.

She had bloodwork done the first time and it came fine. She's not a very small dog, around 7 ibs. (well she's a little overweight). She did not drool when it happened. I don't know if any of her puppies has had it.
