I'm sorry you went through this and hope it's the end of your problems, but I'd give them a good blasting in the article.

That's because every dog at petland is given pretty much the same kind of care, exercise, grooming, etc. regardless of breed. If a dog needs attention, it better hope that a customer wants to hold it or an employee gets bored. It's really sad. When we got our dog from there, it was acting like he hadn't been touched in days and days, his fur was too long for a puppies and horribly matted, and he smelled awful. We were happy to rescue him but at the same time we regret supporting such a horrible business.

the biggest mistake is thinking that you RESCUE a pup from pet store.
this is not "rescue". rescue - when you go to a shelter or rescue organisation and ADOPT a puppy.

BUYING a pet from pet store is not "rescue", this is just supporting puppy mills business.

I feel bad that you had to go through this and I pray that your baby is ok now. Horray for you for helping to expose this horrible tragedy!!! ALLLLLLL of these stores need to be shut down. It makes me cry when I think of the awful conditions they are kept in. Our stupid laws in this country need to change- the animal protcetion laws are absolutely PATHETIC!!! As I have said many,many times before, knowledge is power.The more we can spread the word to the general public about these stores, the better off these pups will be!! God bless you for helping to make a difference!!:thumbup:

I am from Baton Rouge too, and I actually just went into Pet Land today. We weren't going to buy anything but I just wanted to see what the place was about. My boyfriend and I played with an English Bulldog and he was making this horrible hacking coughing sound. When I asked the sales girl why he was coughing like that she said "Oh, I don't know, he just has a cough or something." If you need any help with research or anything like that, I live nearby and I would love to help. It's terrible the condition those dogs are kept in.

Ugh!

I just have to say - it's one of the reasons I prefer the other "big box" pet stores. While I'll never buy a tropical fish from them (some are captured incredibly cruelly - others actually injected with die to brighten their colors) I do appreciate the fact that they don't sell dogs there.

Have you ever seen their pet adoption centers? Very cool set up.

I've never actually seen a PetLand but it sounds like a horrible place! Great idea with your story, I hope it goes well. Also, I think it's a great idea that your writer is getting a job there so you have the inside scoop on the inner workings! Keep us updated! :thumbup:
