How do your get the hair straight? 1 Attachment(s) Here is a pic of Ryo as most of you have seen. The SD card slot of my camera is broken so i cannot retrieve any new pictures right now. You can see how wavy his hair is. I can brush his butt and it will stay straight for a second but if you turn ur head for a minute it will curl back up a bit. His body hair has a very slight wave. his facial hair drys straight When I wash his hair I don't blow it dry, it drys naturally. and i brush it as it dry. For those who have posted Yorkies with straight hair, do you you do anything in specific to make it stay straight. Does the act of blow drying straighten it? is there some kind of finisher i need to put on it to get it to stay straight? my next question is i am sick of these cheep pin brushes i have been buying here in PR. I want to know which CC brushes or combs to get.. they don't have to be the most expensive CC brushes or combs, but I would like to know which ones will work for me for the least amount of money, cause I am on a budget (until a few million fall from the sky on my back patio) If you all recommend a brush that cost over 30 bucks thas fine cause as of now i have purchased two pin brushed from pet shops in the last year for Ryo , adding up to at least 16 bucks so far. so tell me what CC comb or brush you have if you have one, which one you would have purchased if you had the budget, and which one you purchased but you could have bought the less expensive XXXX style CC comb or brush because it does the same job as the one you have. More importantly is there a place to get any CC products without needing to pay some crazy fee on top of an outrageous shipping charge thas 25 dollars instead of the normal USPS less than 10 dolla charge for the weight of products i wanna buy. I hope this all makes sense. Kisses! |
There is detangling spray you can use, we've found it helps our Winky keep his hair very straight. Good luck! |
i've been told to blow it dry with a round brush. |

2 Attachment(s) Here is a pic after he has been washed you can see the waves there after i brushed it dry. If its not possible for me to get it straighter i can live with that. But i just wanted to try to get it straight. I appreciate your assistance. Like i said if no one can help me I will try the other stuff once more. I really do need advice on the CC brushes as well please Thanks! |
A yorkie has to have the right genetics for straight hair. Your baby has genes for some waviness to his coat. Lacy has very straight hair but my parents yorkie has a more cottony coat that tends to get some wave to it too when it gets longer. When I have bathed him before I am able to comb his hair while blowdrying and get it pretty straight but the waves will come back by the next day. |
I blow dry Reeses and it keeps his hair straight. His hair will naturally dry straight for the most part but it does tend to have a wave in it but when I blow dry it and brush it out straight while I blow dry it..it stays straight. |
I heard once that you could use a straightening iron on their hair? Anyone else ever heard this?? |
1 Attachment(s) Yeah one day i did it and i swore it was straight and 5 seconds later it was curly. Here is one more... i think he has not only got a wavy gene but a lil bit of the grudge gene as well or alien cause his eyes are glowin! Freaked me out the first time i saw that. anyway so what about brushes... I am really lookin for a nice sturdy brush or comb is that is recommened |

I'm curious about brushes as well....I bought a pretty cheap brush from petsmart and it worked well at first, but now the pins are falling out! I've only had it for about a month. I think I'm going to get a small travel sized conair brush to replace it. It is what I use on my own hair and they last forever. I don't know how well it will work on a yorkie, though! It's worth a try, I thought. -O |

Cali has a cottony coat that has a wavyness to it even with a professional grooming she is not ever real straight. Pixie has such straight hair that it never waves it just dries completley straight. I have the CC gold series pin brush and it is much nicer than the cheaper ones. It seems to make the coat shinier I didn't think it helped with the wavyness. Blow drying it real thoroughly helps also. |
Try this...My Maltese has a wavy, cottony coat. When I blow his hair dry, I brush the hair in the OPPOSITE direction of the way in grows. So instead of brushing downward, I brush the hair upward and it straightens his hair out beautifully. I don't use a pin brush on him either. I use a soft boar brush. It's a bit easier on his skin when I am brushing his coat while blowing him dry. |

There is so much information in this forum, I have gone through it all and gotten confused so many times.... So what is good about a boar brush |
For daily brushings I like the pin brush but for blowing my Maltese dry I find that the boar brush is just a bit gentler on his skin. It takes awhile to dry him because the cottony coats tend to be thicker so I want to make it as easy on him as I can. Also, the boar brush is great for human hair so I figure it's good for our furbabie's hair as well. I hope this technique works for you. I would post pics before and after but I just gave Biscuit a bath yesterday morning so he won't be getting another one for another week or so. If I think of it, I'll take pics during his next bath. |
Boar brush spreads natural skin oils over the whole length of a hair. Because hair come in closer contact with the bristles it gives also extra shine and it helps with dry hair. It is kind of natural moisturizing tool. It straightens (or slicks) very well. These brushes also pick up most dust and dirt from hair. I use it myself when I want my hair straight. Try to buy good quality with soft rubber pad. The best ones made by Mason Pearson but the are very expensive. I have one myself for over 6 years already and I swear by it. I use it sometimes on my furbaby :D and he just absolutely enjoys it. The drawback with boar brushes is that it should not be used on wet hair or with any styling treatments or it will desintegrate and bristles will fall off. It will still last a few years but won't last forever like metal pin brushes. |
Thanks for the explaination of the boar brush. The one I have for Biscuit is not really expensive and I haven't had any problems with it disintigrating when I use it to blowdry Biscuit's wet hair but then again it only gets used about 3 times a month when I give him his bath. You can find medium priced boar brushes at Sally's Beauty Supply or any hair supply store. |
