I came home to a frayed blanket - I'm worried! Ok, so today was my first day going back to work after getting Violet. I set her up safe and secure (I thought) in the kitchen area we talked about, and was gone for 8 hours today (my mom came mid day to check in and play for a little while) and I came home 2 hours early from work. Violet pooped this morning before I left for work. I came home and one of the receiving type blankets that I had in her crate is frayed and uneven. I have several of these same type blankets (they are the hospital receiving blankets from when I brought my daughter home from the hospital). It is possible I guess that part of it may have been uneven to begin with but I am not sure. I am *PRAYING* that she did not eat part of her blanket?!?! Is it possible that a 9 week old puppy could do that??? There is no more poop since 7 this morning. I am worried sick. Any idea what I should watch for if she did eat part of a blanket?? My guess is I need to see her poop, right? When do I need to worry ? Thanks so much in advance, Cheryl |
So just as I was typing that, she pooped on her paper. I am still very worried though... If she had something in her - is there any way I could know? She is acting normal and her stomach doesn't feel or appear to be bloated or anything? I feel so TERRIBLE for possibly leaving a hazzardous blanket in with her. I thought I checked and double checked..... :-( |
Sorry, I can't help. My only suggestion would be to call your vet to ask what they think ASAP. |
she may have just torn it up. if you had noticed the fraying, i'm sure from what you posted above you would not have left it out. it sounds as tho she didn't ingest much of it and should come out in the next poo or 2. since you said she's acting normal she may not have ingested any of the threads. she might have even been scratching at the blanket to cause it to fray. hope you get either 1: stringy poo soon or 2: a great answer from another yt'r. |
I just talked to my mom too. She stopped over around lunch time and picked up 2 poops on the paper too. So it seems like so far she is passing poop. She said she did not see a frayed blanket at that time, but that she didn't look in her crate either. I just talked to the vet. They said to watch and see if poop stops. She is acting normal but they said it could possibly be too early to tell. She said they can do x-rays but it is very hard to see on dogs this small (?) So I'll be praying my heart out that Violet is ok. I feel so bad. |
Yes, I am *Praying* that she just tore it up. |
I would think she would be having problems now if she ate any. I will keep her in my prayers. |
I also called another vet (our local Banfield). They were very nice. They said the same thing, to keep an eye on poops, etc.. and she also said that sometimes you'd be surprised at what puppies can pass through their systems. She said it would be more worrysome if she had ingested something plastic, hard, or a bone. She pooped again, so I'm just going to keep a close eye on her. I am really worried, and feel foolish for leaving a blanket with her that had the potential for getting frayed/chewed like this. I tried to be so careful! I'm going to stay home from work tomorrow (I can work at home) -- to keep an eye on her. Thanks for listening you guys. I'll shut up now :) Cheryl |
You're not foolish! You did a loving thing - your own daughter's baby blanket. That's really sweet. Now you know what she's capable of and what you have to watch out for. Don't worry yourself sick. If the vet said rush her right in, then you could realy panic. Just watch her and feed her light food. Take a deep breath! Judy |
It's really hard to tell when their little like yours what their going to get into. Heck, even my Rudy at over a year old, you never know sometimes. ;) You didn't do anything wrong. Now you know not to give her anymore baby blankets for a while. It's impossible to second guess what might happen. It's really all a learning process, just like with a lst child. ;) |
