Licking their paws Does anyone's Yorkie constantly lick their paws? Mine does and I'm not sure if it means anything or not. |
Aubrey will if he is cleaning himself, other than that no. Your baby does it a lot? |
Kiwi went through a period where she was constantly licking her leg. She licked the hair off. Our groomer thought it might be separation anxiety. We started walking her more and it has stopped. I have also heard that they can have allergies that cause licking. |
Kobe does it a lot. He almost reminds me of a cat. Sometimes he does it so much he ends of making himself gag up hair and phlem.:tongue4: |
See Aubrey doesn't do this but he CONSTANTLY scratches himself... Anyone else have a dog that does this? I have flea medicine on him and put it on him every month... And he gets a bath every week and his skins not dried out... |
Magic licks her paws all the time...she does it when she get anxious about something. If someone is missing in the house at night, she tends to lick nonstop!! If she gets something on one of her paws she is obsessive even after it is gone...she has done this for a while now. As long as she is not licking it bald or chewing on her hair we don't worry about it too much, she is just high strung and that is her way of dealing with it. |
Sometimes he even chews on his paw. |
Both mine will only lick their paws if they're wet. Say we come inside from the rain or snow and it's "chew city" here! I used Bitter Apple to help stop them or they'll just chew under they're raw. |
Mine does, often. I have checked to make sure there is no sore or hair loss. Nothing. Just licking. |
Bailey started all of a sudden licking his paws and I took him to our vet. She said that it is some kind of an allergy. She is not sure if this is a food allergy or a seasonal allgery. She has changed his food and he is now taking medication for this. Bailey is almost 2 and our vet said he is at the right age for allergies............Might be worth seeing your vet. |
I took Jac to the vet and she too said it could be an allergy. But it comes and goes because he'll lick his paws for a while and then go a spell not doing it. When he's doing it I give him a half a Zertec to help fight what ever allergy causing it. I was looking to see if something else could be the cause? |

Piper will 'get into' her paws regularly, but infrequently, if that makes sense. She'll usually do it during our down time and it's usually slow licks--I always have to check to see if she licking something off of her pillow or if she's licking paws; it's her paws. She's not manic or anything, and I, too, am reminded of a grooming cat. If I think licking as gone on long enough, Piper will stop when asked (such a good little girl). |
My Kinder washes her paws by licking them in the evening. If we sit outside she will get anxious and lick and chew the tops of her paws. We mentioned it to our vet and he did not seem to be too worried about it. I bought some apple bitter and I dip a cotton ball in it and put that on her paws. That seemed to do the trick but every so often she starts up again so back to the bitter. I would not want her to lick her paws raw and I do not suggest putting bitter on because that would sting.
