Anyone have pet insurance???I have questions??? This past month we have made 3 visits to the vet and today will be number 4 due to Hallee's limp. I suggested to DH we look into pet insurance. We have already spent approx $250 for the last 3 visits and who knows what today is going to cost me expecially if they do the xrays. Of course, I would spend whatever I have to for my babies. Some questions for you: Do you find the pet insurance is worth paying for? Do you get reimbursed back directly or does the vet bill it to the insurance company? What is the name of the insurance company you use? How much do you pay for the coverage? What type of coverage do you have? Thanks in advance for any info you can give me. |
Hi I have it for my 2 yorkies. Calu was a very sick puppy and ran up over 7,000 in vet bills but some the insurance considered preexisting because she was seen for hypoglycemia before her coverage went into effect so they wouldn't pay for any other visits for that. ALso they don't cover geneic illnesses and she had a liver shunt. But they did pay over 1,000.00 in other charges and about 300.00 in allergy related charges. Pixie I have only had to use it once and I haven't sent the claim in yet. It was 360.00 and I hope to get about 200 or so back. I like having it even though if your dog is healthy (hopefully) you won't get much out of it, but if you have a sick dog or an accident it is well worth it. I have VPI, I pay 23.00 a month per dog and they just take it out of my credit card monthly. I have the Superior plan but not the wellness benefit. You submit a claim and within 3-4 weeks you get a check back. Hope this helps |
Thanks I was just looking at the VPI on the internet. |

I posted this back in June...this was the first time I used VPI. I have the premier plan, or maybe it's called the wellness plan. This plan covers office visits and shots. You can go onto their website and read up on it. posted 6/26/07 (I think!!) Just wanted to let you all know how I made out with the VPI. I have 2 yorkies. I brought them both in at the same time for heartworm test and, meds. Sadie got a booster. I will show you the breakdown so you can see what I saved and where I saved it. I do have the extended plan which covers office visits and shots. I pay around 57.00 a month for both of the girls Sadie: physical exam 21.00 pd 10.00 (I got charged for this but he never examined her!) office call 10.00 pd 10.00 dhpp (booster) 18.00 pd 18.00 heartworm test 40.00 pd 15.00 hearthgard 28.00 pd 0.00 (the insurance pays you back 15.00 for either the test or the heartgard) Lillie: heartworm test 40.00 pd 15.00 The office call and PE was all put on Sadies bill so I couldn't claim any of it on Lillies...Besides...he NEVER did the physical exam..I have recently changed vets (long story) I saved 68.00!! I am VERY happy about this. I didn't think I would save as much as I did.. Just thought that any of you that are thinking about getting VPI would be interested in seeing the breakdown. Brenda |
We use Allianz, they do excellent pet care program works out about €320 a year for our guys. Its well worth it pixie had a limp too and we had her xrayed, she has a joint that slips in and out during the warmer months. Doing a bit of physio with her to strengthen the joint to avoid putting her through an operation. The first bills paid by you then you fill out a claim and the rest is paid directly to vet for that particular treatment. |
