New baby boy! Hello, I'm new to this site, and just brought home my first yorkie (first dog ever) on Thursday. I bought him from a breeder and he is the light of my life! I had a deposit down before birth and I knew I wanted a boy. Well, his birthday came (may 6th) and although this mom usually has 3-5 pup litters there was only one; and a boy!!! This baby was meant for me. I named him Uno since he was the only one. He turned 11 weeks today. I'm very excited for our new journey but also nervous...If you have any tips for a first timer I would greatly appreciate it. :animal-pa |
Awww Congratulations!! And welcome to YT |
Congratulations on your new fur baby Uno and WELCOME to YT! One thing I would suggest is take lots and lots and LOTS of pictures! We got our yorkie around the same age as you did, and he's changed so much since then! Also, don't spend too much money on beds and accessories just yet...I spent loads of money buying my Tobi stuff he doesn't even like or use :p GOOD LUCK TO YOU AND UNO!!! :D |
Uno what a perfect name for him:lightbulb :welcome4: to yt |
Congratulations on Uno (cute name) and welcome to YT!:D |
Awe, Congrats! He was def. meant for you. Welcome to YT. There is a lot of information on here that will be very helpful. Especially the training section. Good luck with Uno!!! |

Welcome to YT! :yorkiesar youll love it here!!! yay! you got you baby!:aimeeyork :yorkietal just give him lots of mommy lovin!! hehe... |
welcome!!! :welcome4: and :goodluck: You'll find out so much here and you'll have people to laugh with you at your babies silly antics! I have to agree with the other poster who said don't go crazy with stuff (toys, beds, etc..) at first... but for a different reason! I bought my boys a GORGEOUS bed before I got them, in preperation ya know? They ATE it! Tons of toys.... ALL destuffed and DESTROYED! :D a nice mat for the inside of the crate.... peed on so much I had to throw it away eventually!! Oh really nice leashes and harnesses which they ate off themselves! More than once too! Get a bed and toys and things you need, but save your money for the 'good stuff' until he is out of the chewing and leg lifting stages! :D |
Welcome and congratulations!!! Uno is such a cute name since he was an only pup. My little guy was an only pup too! Can't wait to see pics of your new baby! |
Congratulations on your baby boy. Give him lots of love, and patience, and you'll have the rest come naturally. |
I have to admit when I first got him home I was worried this was going to be extremely difficult (Well, I also had a horrible cold which made everything a lil' harder!) Going into this I felt so prepared and ready and knew how I was going to deal with training, etc, and the first few days my mind went blank! He must have just been shy/scared to go potty because he held it a long time (after peeing in my bedroom twice, but no accidents since Friday morning). I give him a tiny piece of a canine carryout everytime he pees or poops, and I say "all done???" and he goes running to the door. I have a petyard XT (using only 4 sides for now) that I keep him in if I can't be in the room/have to shower/etc., and he has his potty pad in one corner, food & water in the other, a tiny baby bed &blanket and tons of toys in the rest of the area. He loves to cuddle up and take naps with his Bobo (loooong weiner dog toy from petco...I think it's called a loofah dog toy?) He will sit on his potty pad and spin in circles and make little barking noises and then I take him out right away. Maybe i'm just wanting to believe he's catching on so soon, but he seems to know when to go outside. He doesn't have free roam of the house yet but we are slowly gaining access to the rest of the house! I'm sure i'll be asking for more help SOON! If you guys don't mind, could you tell me how long it took to completely train your dog to the point you could trust 'em to stay at home alone? I'm using lots of patience and don't expect him to get it down even within the nextmonth. Just wondering how everybody's time frame differs in terms of training their baby. Thanks! |
