How Much Poop Is Normal? Would someone please tell me how much poop is normal for a puppy 9 weeks old? Approx. how many times a day? I am so frustrated right now. All I do is clean up after her...she even goes on me when I try to hold her. She has been on antiobiotic for almost 2 weeks for Coccadia. The vet doesn't seem to have any answers. He has done xrays and determined she was full of poop (hard to believe since she goes all the time). He gave her an enema last Friday and said she went A LOT. She is eating Natural Choice dog food, 1/4 day so I don't think I am overfeeding. She plays (in between pooping) and doesn't seem to feel bad. She constantly walks around hunched up in "poop mode" and her little bottom stays raw. |
Coccidia is a evil thing and I am assuming the vet had retested her? When Diggy had it my vet tested him 3 times to make sure it was gone as is can show negative and still be present. I have heard a lot of people saying it takes 3 series of Albon to rid of coccidia. What medication is she on? As far as pooping goes....DIggy with coccidia went like 7 times a day but when is was gone, he goes 3-4 depending on how much he eats. I switched him to Canidea and Innova Evo and that helped a lot. Has the vet checked her anal glands? Are you usinf anything on her bottom to help with the rawness? |
Oh I forgot to add...she is only 9 weeks? That is really too young to be away from her mother. With this small breed they need more time with mom. I also got Diggy too young so it was one of those live and learn things. DO you free feed? SHe absolutley needs to be free fed. Babies this young tend to get hypoglycemic. Diggy did and ended up having seizures from blood sugar getting too low. Until your baby is about 14 weeks you have to be sure she has something in her bellay all times. My bvet recommended sitting down and hand feeding him every 3-4 hours. Yes, it's a pain but TRUST ME you DO NOT want her blood sugar to drop and result in wobbly walking, disorientation or even seizures. Do you have Nutrical? Its an awesome product that will supplement and bring blood sugar level up if needed. Its not something she needs if sheis eating the frequent meals, but Diggy did not always wanna eat so I would give him nutrical if he went over the 4 hour mark with no food. Just a tiny pea size did the trick. Also there are healthy alternative snack to just puppy food. Like baby carrots are great for a young baby. Really any veggie or fruit besides onion, grapes and raisins. I also offered a few cheerios or corn flakes between meals. |
poop I can tell you that my 17 week old male s**t-zhu/chihuahua mix poops all the time!!! He poops like 8 times a day to Zoey's 2. It's crazy. But just like humans have different digestive systems...dogs must too. Is it solid? |
She eats good. I am feeding her Natural Choice and giving her one dab of Nutrical daily...is that enough Nutrical? The vet did check her bottom and gave her a spray for it but it doesn't seem to be helping at all. Prior to the spray I tried vaseline and Neosporin. Just a few minutes ago when I washed her bottom under warm water she yelped and tried to bite me. She is pooping so much that it is staying raw. And, I have to wash her because it sticks to her. I forgot to ask the vet Friday if I should continue the Albon. To my knowledge, he did not check for the Coccadia but said sometimes it take awhile to get rid of it. She goes much more than 7 times a day! It seems to be every few minutes. It is not watery but soft. I am angry at the breeder for selling her so young. I can't even reach the breeder...her phone is disconnected and the girl I work with who got her said the breeder met her with the pups. I got her from the girl at work a couple of weeks ago because her little boy wasn't being gentle. |
Oh, what is Canidia and Innova Evo? Is this antibiotic? Thank you all so much for your advice and support! |
poop Wow more than 7 times a day and every few minutes? That does not seem normal or healthy. The vet doesn't think that's abnormal? |
