dog people vs cat people Are dog people nicer than cat people? Ive been on The Cat Site because i have 2 cats and i find it hard to post there. I was looking at some threads and some people were bashing dogs , pee pads, and that dogs are needy. I got upset and just left. I would not have anything nice to say so i wont say anything. I assume its that im spoiled with Yt, because even with our own soap operas here, we make people feel welcomed. I dont think all cat people are mean, just to put that out there so no one will think im saying everyone is. just wondering what other doggy people think and what other cat people think. |
From my personal experience, I think dog owners are nicer. I use to have cats, but now I find dogs more of an appropiate pet to have, because they are much fun to play with, and I'm never afraid for that HISS and scratch attack from my old cat now that i have a dog instead. :p |
I think it depends on the site. Id say they are equal. I love em both!:) |
Haha, I'd say it's people on that site. I recently got a kitten, so I've been on that site before so I know exactly what you are talking about. |
Honestly, I am more of a cat person than a dog person. When I divorced, my ex got our two cats (both of whom *I'd* rescued after they were abandoned) after a lengthy fight over them. The reason was mostly due to housing situations. My mom suggested that since I am allergic to cats, that maybe I should get a dog instead. That is how I ended up with a yorkie! IMO dogs are a LOT more work than cats. Pottying, for example. You take the cat to the litterbox, drop him in it, he knows where to go from then on (for the most part, although my Misty was so young when I found her in a dumpster that I had to train her a little bit, but nothing like what I have to do with Paddington!) Also, in my situation anyway, the cats were so much more loving than Paddington! They would sit in my lap and purr when I came home from a hard day... but Paddington just wants me to run around and play with him, even when I'm physically exhausted. Also, I could leave my cats alone for the weekend, with enough food and water, and someone to check on them every once in a while; I could never leave Paddington like that, even when he's grown! Don't get me wrong, I love my bear, and wouldnt' trade him for anything! I am just saying that cat people tend to be independent themselves, and don't want/need an animal that requires every ounce of their attention all the time. That is why dogs seem so needy to us. I think though, that there are many different kind of people who have dogs, and many different kinds of people who have cats, and so it's hard to make a generalization like that. The difference, I think, is how people view their pets. -O |
I just realized that my previous post makes it sound like I let my ex take the cats because I decided to get a yorkie and my allergies. I wanted to say that isn't what I meant to convey- I'd even take my cats back now if I had the chance. I meant that my ex got the cats, and I was going to get another to fill the hole in my heart when my mom suggested a small breed dog instead! -O |
OpheliaLoved, I think the thread creator meant who is nicer: cat owners or dog owners... not which animal is better :p Of course cats are less of a problem. Dogs are more like babies! :D that's why I love them so much hahaha. |
The Cat Site and most rescue based forums have very oppionated people on them. They bash people for giving up their animals because they read about it so often. There are always sad stories and pleas for help on those sites. I think they just get depressed with the number of animals that need rehomed and there are not enough homes for them all. I think cat people and dog people are similar. But the cat and dog rescue people do not like people as much as animals and are not always as kind to people. I have worked with a lot of rescues and shelters and most ot them prefer animals to people. Try Saving Shelter Pets or the Petfinder Classifieds to rehome your cats. |
I can't comment on this, I have cats and dogs:p |

I was always more of a cat person before I got Lacy. I have two Himalayan cats and Lacy right now. Since I've gotten Lacy I think I do prefer dogs more but I love cats too! Cats are definitely the easier pet to have. Dogs are more like having children. I don't really think dog owners are nicer than cat owners. I agree with rescue people comment. Those that work closely with rescue groups love animals but aren't always so nice to people and aren't always the most social people out there..at least in my experience anyway. I haven't been to the Cat Site but I plan to check it out now. I think people that have only ever owned cats need to know how difficult owning a dog can be because it is such a difference and really a lot more work. I think you can do so much more with dogs though like playdates, taking them out with you, going to the dog park, etc. |
I'm def not a cat person. Somehow, some reason every cat I've touched or met in my life don't like. I've been told it's because I'm so much like a cat, blah, blah, blah. I love all stuff kitty animals though! :) Hello Kitty fanatic here! hehe. Cats seem to always hiss and scratch me, if not shed their hair all over me. :( I've never even been quite a dog person either. Dont know why. Oh well, I'm happy as a ''yorkie person''. :p |

I think dogs are social animals, so social people tend own them vs a cat. Cats are social only on their own terms, and I think so are a lot of the people who own them. IDK, I'm kind of rambling at this point :p sorry, I guess I'm bored -O |

I go to the Cat Site sometimes too, usually to post for help for cats at my shelter. I have cats myself and I love both dogs and cats the same. |
I have been a cat person since I was a very small child. I remember my grandmother, on the farm, letting me pick out my first kitten and bringing it home when it was probably too young to wean. I also had a dog when I was young, and we were best friends. But after he disappeared, at the age of ten, we got another one. It was really my mom's dog, and I was never close to a dog again until Sophie, my Yorkie. I am now 55. I think that I fell in love with Yorkies because I feel they are more like cats, opinionated, always wondering what's in it for them, and because of their size. They are easy to pick up and cuddle. I don't think I would like a dog that smells or that I couldn't hold on my lap. :aimeeyork |
I've noticed that people that prefer cats over dogs are more independent and love to be on the go more. My best friend in the whole world is a major cat lover. She just isn't interested in house training a dog and even having one in the house. She spends more time going here and there than she does in her house. She doesn't like being tied down. Having a cat suits her lifestyle. I know a few school teachers that have only cats because their lifestyle is so busy and even when they come home they continue to grade papers and get set up for the next day. I haven't met anyone who has cats and doesn't like dogs though. I've never had a cat simply because my husband and sons are very allergic to them. I suppose even if they weren't, I still wouldn't have one because I think it's cruel to keep them inside all their lives, and cruel to let them outside to roam. |

I think it all depends on from where you come. Until 11 months or so ago, I was 100% cat person. I would have insisted that cat people are nicer to be around. I could not possibly have understood what it was like having a dog, because I didn't. I never wanted a dog, thinking they were too much work, having to pick up poo all the time. The thought! (It never bothered me to scoop the litter boxes twice daily and clean fur log messes from the carpet.) I had and still have four cats. What 11 months will do. Now, I would have to say it is tied. I find cat people just as nice as dog people. Some are not so nice either! I find that dog people are just part of a different culture than cat people. Each are unique and special in their own way. |

My Husband and I use to be cat people we had 4 cats 1 Himilayan and 3 domestic When the cats started dying we got the yorkes. We now only have 1 cat left and shes old. Now since having dogs I would never be without a yorkie. I think I am a kinder person since getting them. I think dog people are more laid back and just fun loving people. I dont know if dog people are kinder than cat people but I beleve people who have pets are kinder than people who dont.. I find people who arent pet lovers to be manipulative people. Maybe thats just my experience |
