What's better a collar or body harness? 1 Attachment(s) I would like to know which is better for a Yorkie, a collar or body harness? Is there anything I should look out for? Kobe hasn't gone on any walks yet because he's terribly afraid of all noises on the street. Do you have any suggestions on how to help him over his fears and is there anyone else out there with similar problems? |
The harness... Yorkies have very soft throats and a collar can really hurt then badly. As far as the noises, mine is afraid of thunder and fireworks.. He barks at the UPS truck and such. Loves the mailman. |
My little Kela only will walk on a harness. I know that my vet has said that WE HAVE TO WALK HER ON A HARNESS!! Because yorkies are really prone to collapse tracheas. She does really well on a harness and not so good with a collar. When we bought her harness I brought it home and put it right on her. She tried to eat it and get it off but after awhile she gave up. We left it on for about three days (day and night) and it doesn't bother her now. She is excited when she sees it because it means "Walk Time". As for the noise... we take our puppy to a really quite park in the evenings and have walked her there. I dont know if that is just a puppy thing or what... but I hope they grow out of it!! |

I want to KISS Kobe! He is so handsome and looks so wise. We use a harness with Susanah because I am terrified of hurting her neck. She has no problems wearing it. In fact she PRANCES instead of walks with it on. :rolleyes: |
You definitely want to use a harness. Just keep trying to take him on walks. He will get used to the noises and look forward to his walks |
Everyone above basically answered your question. A harness is best as yorkies are suceptible (SP) to collasped trachea (if they're on a collar and you were to ''tug'', think about the force to their little necks) As far as going out goes, I didn't start taking Daisy out til she was about 5 months. They are definately very nervous and hard to coax to walk. :) You'll end up carrying her for the ''walk''. They'll eventually grow up and love trips outside...so patience.. Btw, your baby is a cutie! |

Take Kobe to Petsmart and try on harness. I think Kobe is almost in a med.Try a step-in harness first. |
