Frontline, Advantix, or Revolution? Which is best. I found a flea in the bathtub tonite after my babies bath. I know this thread has probably been "done to death" but I'm curious which is best and easiest on our babies? Has anyone dealt with fleas only at the top of the tail and no where else on the body. |
Revolution is supposed to be the safest for liver compromised dogs, and it includes heartworm preventative. :) You can find this info in the Files section of the liver shunt group. |
we use revolution. not sure if it it the "best" but it is what we chose :) |

I live in PA. and was using revolution but my dogs kept getting ticks! So, when I took my lab in for his checkup, they told me that around here in the mountains that the revolution isn't enough. So, they are now on frontline plus. (I have 3 dogs) There has not been a flea or tick on them since I started the frontline. Just thought I would put my 2 cents in LOL The vet did say that in some states the revolution is enough so you could also check with your vet. |
We use K9 Advantix I heard its the best from my Vet.......:aimeeyork |
With my previous pup.. Bonnie a chi-weenie... we used frontline plus as well. We have a forest around our house and she kept getting ticks. Frontline was the only thing that actually worked for both. |
I have been using Advantix K9 with excellent results, but I am going to have to change. Roxy had developed an allergy or something to it. When I put it on she spends 2 days pacing, rubbing her face, not eating, not wanting to be touched and freaks out if touch the spot where it went. And th spot swells up a little, too. I'm not sure which I will switch to. |
We use frontline and never have had any problems. |
Frontline Plus! I use Frontline Plus on my two babies. My vet says its the best and I have not had any problems with ticks or fleas. |
Not Revolution! Do NOT use Revolution! That is deadly stuff! I used it on my Westie-min. Schnauzer once, and he had horrible diarrhea for days. I finally had to hospitalize him at vet's. I know it was the Revolution even though vet tried to deny it. (Another vet in same practice was suspicious that it was, indeed, Revolution). This is a dog that NEVER EVER messed in house, and this began about two days after he had Revolution. It finally began to taper off toward end of month (when that monthly dose was tapering off). (My daughter worked for a Charleston SC vet who refused to prescribe Revolution for anything. Also, once I was helping to man the SPCA Booth, and a Lowcountry Rescue lady with me saw my vet walking by, and called her to talk abut the ill effects Revolution had had on one of her dogs. The vet was very arrogant and swore that it could not have been, but that convinced me that Revolutoin is bad stuff! My wonderful vet (expert on Yorkies) has put my ancient Yorkie on Frontline and Sentinel, and Casey has never had one problem. Frontline great for keeping fleas off and Sentinel fabulous for preveting heartworms and other parasites. Tricia H. |
I use revolution and have never had any problems |
I work in a store that sells pet suppies and I tell people to use the one that works for your pet in your area. None of the meds will work for ALL pets in ALL areas. One may work better than another for your pet/area and thats fine. But most important is to use it as intended. Not more than directed and not more offen then intended. Follow the label. |
I used Frontline Plus but my vet is now using Revolution and told me to try it. It's been 3 months so far on Revolution and have not had a problem. |
Well Paula you know my take on this but Ill post anway..... With Otis having allergies and possible liver issue I would look into more natural ways like Dawn soap for a while. Id say this is a narrowing down process and I had to go REALLY slow with everything with Diggy as you know. Shots one at a time and some not at all....Now Bella acts really strange afetr Frontline like you said like her skin is crawling....and she even shook and got really cold one time right afetr I put only half a dose on her. I have tried Advantix when we went to Florida vet said that its the best for mosquitos which are BAD in Fla. where we were vacationing. She did great. So with Diggy and him being under liver suspicion I was told Revolution is best for dogs with liver issues. So I did revolution, He did great. So him I am keeping on Revolution even though Bile Acid test was negative for issues. Bella...well I still do frontline and interceptor....when allthe interceptor is gone I am looking into revolution. I use frontline every 6 weeks instead of every 4 weeks. Have for 2 years and only use half a tube and quarter the other half for the 2 ferrets. what are u using for heart worm? see with diggy I do not give any 2 shots at the same time vet does them all a week apart easier to tell what he is reacting to if he reacts. I try and space everything apart just encase he reacts, its not such a guessing game. But with Otis being on Lactose and Allergy meds and needing both daily its hard to just stop everyhitng and go at it one at a time...and now seeing a flea you have to add something else in the mix. I would seriously look into the Dawn and eliminate the fleas as cause of him going after tail. If he stops going after tail after Dawn bath theres your answer! I hopethis works for ou and we get this narrowed down. When was his last Bile Acid test?? Im thinking its only been a few months. My vet said if Diggy was still symptomatic for Liver Issue to re-test in 6 weeks. But I'm thinking your vet said 6 months? Maybe you could look into Bile Acid to get some peace of mind that way??? I know this stinks....And anyway I can help I will. :D |
