Does your baby do this? We feed Sophie in the kitchen, but often she doesn't finish her dinner. If we go to another room, she normally will not go back to eat. But, she will beg for us to give her something, and when we bring the food bowl in the den, she will eat in front of us!:D I remember that we had a cat that would always wait for us to go downstairs in the morning before she would go down to eat in the kitchen, even though she had food in her bowl. Funny! |
My aunt used to have a lab that would eat from her bowl while the family was in the kitchen, but if we were in the living room when she was fed, she would get a mouthful of kibble, carry it into the living room, and drop it on the carpet to eat it in there with us. She did the same thing in the dining room if that is where we are. She just wanted to be with us, and couldn't be torn between her family and her food!!! :p -O |
Dinner alone?? Dogs are pack animals. I believe they instinctively like to eat as a group. In other words they dont like to eat alone! My babies always eat together and i free feed. |
Jake has to have things a certain way or he won't eat. I HAVE to stay in the kitchen with him because, if I don't, he will follow me and won't finish eating. I homecook for him, so I usually put his food dish down first and then rinse his water dish out good and add fresh water. He will NOT start eating his food until his water dish is in its place. Once the food dish AND water dish are down, he starts eating. But, he watches to make sure I'm not leaving the room.:) |
Jake the Trainer? hmmmm thats not spoiled at all mom....your not trained at ALL!!! lol!! I love it! :p |
Wesley is like that. He won't want to be in one room eating while we are in another. He always has to be where we are. We keep a bowl of food in the bedroom so when we are going to sleep he will often eat before he goes to sleep with us. |
My friend has a Golden Lab that will only eat if someone is sitting at the table. When they are out of town I take care of her animals and I would have to feed her then sit at the table till she was done... They no longer take her camping because she will not eat the entire time they are gone... strange |

:animal-pa Both of my babies bring their food to the living room a mouthfull at a time, drop it, and then eat a piece at a time. DH and I call it "The gravy train". Then they follow each other back to the kitchen and keep repeating the process. Also, Juju, my 6 yr. old poodle will NOT eat if we are gone, so I have to make sure she eats befor we leave and can only be gone 4-5 hrs. max. |
I free feed Bengi, so if he gets hungry and I'm in the kitchen, he would eat out of his bowl, but if we are in the living room, he gets a mouthful of kibbles, goes to the living room, drops the kibbles in the floor close to us, and eats them one by one, if he's still hungry, he goes back and gets another mouthful. That's funny :) |

i have to stay in the kitchen when lexi eats or she wont eat.. so i sit there like a jerk until she finishes.... |
Sharing I also read if the eat on you or right next to you and are a female, that its also a sign of there instinct. As pack animals the females are the hunters so after they kill they bring the food back to share with other dogs.... If they are bringing food to you or chewing bones by or on you they are sharing....when Bella does it I always pretend to eat with her or chew her bone with her....It's not polite to not eat what your served now girls!!!!:p :p |
Both of mine will pick up just a couple of pieces and bring it into the bed room to eat. They won't eat right out of the bowl. |
