first heat cycle?? Hello, I have a 5lb female yorkie who is almost 11 1/2 months old now. I'm now kinda worried as to why she hasn't had her first heat cycle yet? I've frequently checked for the symptoms and signs but she doesn't seem to have shown any of them. We also have a male yorkie who is just over 2 years old now. He's kinda been interested in her, like, he'll lick her bits after she's peed and he'll lick the areas where she's peed and pee over it. But he's always done that. I haven't noticed any unusual behaivour or anything out of the norm.Whilst I have no plans on them mating for her first cycle, I would like her to have at least one litter from her second cycle. Both myself and family want puppies so we agreed not to fix them until she has at least one litter then that will be all. I've read a few books and searched online and all are saying they have their first cycle after 6-8 months, well this is way past due, and I'm sure if she had a cycle I would have noticed it, right? Anyways, I hope you guys can help :animal36 |
Oh yeah, you definitely would have noticed. Mine is on her first cycle right now. I want it to end already. |
You would definitely know when she has a first cycle...my vet always told me their first cycle may not come at the normal range as other dogs. They are all different, just like humans, some girls will start their monthlies earlier than other girls. My baby girl Kylie did not have her first cycle till she was 11 months old, my vet some will turn a year before they have their first cycle. I wouldn't worry, it's probably right around the corner. |
i have seen here on yt that some don't go into their first season until 24 months. you have time. you should never breed them until their 2nd heat or at least 18 months old. you will know when she is in season. she will swell almost three times the size as she normally is. remember 7 days coming in 7 days bleeding 7 days going out |
