Odd Behavior Does anyone else's yorkie do this? Toby II has this habit of rubbing the side of his head on the ground. Its like is he puts his the side of face down on the ground and drag his face. Both sides...he'll switch off. He does it a lot right after swimming. We use a life vest though so that he doesn't get water in his ears, but I am concerned he's doing this becuase something is wrong with his ears. I was told by someone that he is trying to empty the glands on the side of his face ( ) but I had never heard of this before. Is this something I should be worried about or am I overreacting? I get worried cause he will do even on concrete! And I am worried that he is hurting himself. |
NO that is common for them to do after they have been in water. I think they are trying to dry themselves off. Chachi always does it after a bath |
Molly always does this on her towel after her bath. If there's no towel under her, she'll rub her head on me! Carla |
Very normal. I think it's a dog thing! We think it's just too funny! :D |
Oh, and your friend who mentioned the gland thing? I think that's what cats are doing when they do this, but not dogs. I doubt he'll hurt himself. Don't worry! |
Post Bath Rub Ohhhhhh the post bath rub huh??? Bella can go many many feet face on the ground! |
Yep! Sukoshi does this too! I agree it's mostly when she's wet, and I think she's just drying off. She'll do it on concrete as well after we set her out of the pool, but I normally spread a towel down for her and encourage her to do it there so she doesn't scratch herself. Then the entire floor is fair game when she goes back into the house! |
They are just trying to either dry off when wet, or trying to get a scent ON them. Mine do this with smelly things and after a bath. Maybe they are trying to get some smelling things on them AFTER their bath. :D |
Vinnie does it too, for no reason mostly, but when I get home from playing with my new nephew he rubs the entire length of his body against my face, like a cat!!! Is he trying to make me smell like him? |
I'm so glad to hear that Toby's not the only one doing this! I try to put a towel so that he won't do on the concrete next to the pool but he seems to like the concrete better. Very weird...but yes, definitely funny! :) When other people see him do it, they are always like "what is he doing!" Now I'll be able to tell them he's drying off! Thanks guys! |

Normal. Do a search for "bug rubber" There was a thread about that a while back too.... |
