I agree but then I disagree. I mean yes school and friends is a big problem but I think the minor or person should a know that from the start. That having a pet is a very big responsible and that sometimes when you want to go with your friends some place but you can't because of your pet. Or when you have to go to sleep for school the next day but you can't being you have to get your pet to sleep or stop them from crying at night. Everyone has had that point in there life where they wanted a pet and thought they could take up the responsible but couldn't. I have been there twice. Like from another thread when a girl said that she wanted a yorkie but her parents said that she had to pay for it. I can understand that. My parents did that to me with Jeremiah. I think they do that so that their children can undstand the responsible of saving money and getting what you want and when the time comes taking care of the responsible you wanted. Then I understand when Yorkielover_201 stated that her parents would help her pay for the vet bills and such. My parents did that to me with Jane and Jeremiah. I am saying is that. If someone who is a minor or if anyone wanted a pet. They should know the responsible of taking care of one. I know because I am a minor myself. |

Really..... I am not really sure that you'll give up all the factors . Its what you say now . I just remember when my sister wanted a pup she always asked with the " please , please , please , I'll take care of him " , my parents let her have the pup and guess who took cares oh him , my parents . Later , they give him to a friend of my mother who was happy to have him . A dog is not a toy that you can place in a closet when you are tired of him and let him out when you need a friend . |
i agree i took care of brownie myself my father paid the bills but i was there all day to watch him play with him and everything else and i still do it |

Another thing that I've noticed when the kid gets a pet and mom raises it...that pet will always favor the parents because that's who takes care of it, usually the mom (thank God for yall, lol) to me that's all the more reason to wait until your able to fully care for that pet. But that could just be me and that jealous bone in my body. I get the biggest kick outta Nala following me around and watching my every move rather than my moms. |
I didn't get my first dog until I was almost 33, my first cat at 16. I got my first dog when my only son was 10 and beginning to spend a lot of time away from me, being a new widow I was alone a lot. I was allowed a cat only because they are more independent than dogs and only after I had babysat long enough to save up money for vet bills and spay. The cat I got on my sixteenth birthday lived at my parents house for 18 years, she stayed when I got married because that was her home. I agree with the posts on here, especially the one about the parents getting the dog. You will either get married or go to college and the dog will be use to the home it grows up in, as you spend less and less time with it, it will grow more and more attached to your parents (as my cat did). Talk to your parents about this and if they want you to have a pup they will help you get the right one. Windy and Lida Rose |
LOL. Jane was suppose to be my pet but now she is my dad's. Ignores me all the way. I am trying to get Jeremiah to stop coming to my mom. When he wants attention. Now he knows I am his week and I only had him for about 3 or 4 weeks. |
25 yr. old here and got my Yorkie (Bella) for my 25th birthday. I had wanted a Yorkie so badly for so long. But still, my boyfriend consistently made sure and kept on asking me if I was sure and kept on reminding what is involved. (He was the one that bought Bella for me) I can't say that it's been all fun and games since I've had her. She's had an ear infection, we had to go through training, housebreaking, spaying, etc. But you know what, its all worth it if you are up for it. And I think you can have a pup and a social life as well. You just need to prioritize your time accordingly. Though personally, I don’t advise Christina on getting a pup, I do understand why. |
