DAY 58~And scared to death! Oh Mercy... Hello all! I'm new here and getting ready to be a new granny....we're at day 58 and my little girl Alexis is going to be a first time mommie!:aimeeyork Any suggestions on anything that might be of help? I'm a nurse and have assisted in delivering babies, but NEVER yorkie babies. Mercy me...I think I need a valium drip....:eek: Any tips or advise would be much appreciated. I went through this back in April. It was my first litter. Thank God the mother knew what to do. I did however research everything ahead of time and had all the necessary supplies, and several experienced breeders that I could call if anything went wrong. Nothing did, she had two perfect little babies. Good Luck. Keep us posted. |
I'm trying my best to remember the name of the whelping website I studied before Chloe had her litter last August. It was soooo much help. Let me do some research and I'll get back with you. It tells you everything to have ready and how to assist. I know there are a lot of puritans out there, but I truly believe that my breaking the sac and immediately aspirating the fluids from their nose/mouth was a good thing. Also, the one major thing you need to watch for the mom's benefit is that all the afterbirths are passed. I got so excited I lost count so I ran her to the vet for a shot of oxitocin. Thank goodness I did. She had her last pup about 7 something am and didn't pass the last placenta until 1:00 that afternoon. That was after the oxitocin injection. If I hadn't taken her, we could have had major complications. Anyway, let me find that website for you. I believe it's Debbie something. They say the memory is the first to go! Getting old is hell. |

I was really lucky with Chloe in that on the night of day 61, I decided to start sleeping on the floor next to her. Sure enough, on the morning of day 62 (I guess I slept with my hand on her belly all night!), I felt the contractions start. We had been to the vet the day before for an x-ray which showed four pups. Imagine my surprise when pup five popped out! My sister took both boys, Porky and Spanky, and I kept the runt, Darla. The other two girls, Carleigh and Emma, went to fabulous homes (Carleigh went to a YTer and Emma to my sister's pastors family). Although it was a wonderful experience, I, too, don't plan on doing it again. |
Hi, Our girl had a litter last year and it was her first. Let her have some goats milk coming up to due date It will be really obvious when she goes into labour she will pant like crazy!!! Pixie went into labour at 6pm and the first pup popped out at 1.30am and the last at 3.30am. We just stood by and stopped her from eating the sack (cos it will make her sick) and kept her from "tidying" the cord too much because it could give the pup a herniated tummy. we had load of blankets and a heater for them. Feed mum goats milk and weetabix after its better than cows. next day gave her scrambled eggs. when weaning the pups they loved weetabix made with goats milk too, then onto the royal canin yorkie pup food with goats milk. You can get goats milk in most supermarkets, and Weetabix is a wheat based cereal in Ireland, sorry!!! Its a bit like shredded wheat?? |
