Yuck ear crunchies! Prince had an ear infection in both ears a few weeks ago. I had drops left over from angel so I used them on him. One ear is fine now but the other still smells. I looked inside and he has these dark ear crunchies. I pulled some of them out but some are really stuck in there. Plus, you can hear wetness in his ear just sloshing around. How do I get the rest of the yuckies out and should I give him the drops again in that ear? When he goes to the vet on the 20th I am going to have them pluck the hairs in his ears. |

Anyone? No one knows what I should do? |

Did you try warm water? This might break them up a little?? I'm not too sure. I hope he gets better soon! |

well, he just had a bath 2 days ago. That apparently didnt help :( Should I try a q-tip to get the extra liquid out? He sits very still and would let me do it but I dont know if im supposed to or not. |

Heather: I can only tell you my experiences with Carter. Carter was scratching his ears so I took him to the vet. She used Epi Otic in his ear -- squirted it in the canal and used a q-tip to clean it out. He didn't have the brown yuck that you describe though. He did have a mild irritation though from me not using ear cleaner in his ears after each bath and was given drops for a few days. Brown yuck, in some cases, indicates ear mites. |

NO QTIPS!!!!! Try flushing it with peroxide and water (1/2 and 1/2). I bought a childrens medicine syringe which works well. (Cut the tip so the stream isn't so thin and hard) |

Thanks, i'll try that. I'll take care of what I can for now and next monday the vet can clean him out and get those hairs removed. |

Get your baby to the vet to make sure he does not have an ear mite infestation. Or, a build-up of secretions on the hair that are GREAT places for bacteria to grow. Make sure his ears are dry all the time BUT you need to get his ears healthy and then take care of them yourself. Pluck hair! Keep dry! Especially if ears ore floppy. Vets say to use white vinegar and water 1: but I hate the smell so I use a flushing solution from my vet. Mites are contagios so you might need to treat other dogs if the vet says mites of yeast infection.. |

I imported a Biewer who had mites in only one ear..but both were treated along with 7 other babies, as a precaution.. Have your groomer or vet show you a safe way to use cotton applicators or balls to cleanse thoroughly.. I don't intend to second guess your vet but I have had experience with these situations over the years I have been breeding.. Does he act like his ears are itching? |

No. He doesnt notice it at all. I notice it cause of the smell. I went to kiss his cheek and smelled it. Same smell as when he had that ear infection. He doesnt mess with it. |
