Puppies died...should I be worried? A friend of mine just had 3 of her newborn puppies die. She doesn't know yet what caused them to die and is having an autopsy done but doesn't have the results back yet. She knows it isn't parvo. She thought it might be the puppy vaccines she gave them. None of her adult dogs even got sick. My problem is that I am going to visit her tomorrow with my babies who are both 3 years old. She lives 4 hours away from me so I can't just leave my babies at home and run over to her house. I am a little worried about them being around her dogs because of this. Do you think I have a need to worry about this? What shoud I do? |
pups Newborn with shots?..or are they older then newborn?? If all 3 died the same way, the same day after shots, I would say that was the cause. I would err on the side of safe and stay home until you know the details. |
I'm so sorry this happened to your friend. I would not take my dogs to her house or around her dogs until she finds out what caused the deaths. Not worth the chance to me. Maybe you can visit her another time. |
Yes, I am wondering what shots they are giving a newborn. Is it the first set of shots that you are talking about? I also think I was pass on this trip until who find a reason. Better to be safe than sorry and I am sure she will understand. |
:( :( :( :( :( :( How tragic and I'd keep my dogs away till you know more if I were you just to be safe....that's so sad |
aww thats so sad :( I wouldnt be taking my babies there till I knew why they died. |
One puppy died shortly after it was born. It was the runt of the litter. This was a litter of 4 yorkie pups. I thought maybe this pup just wasn't developed properly. Two puppies from another litter died (these are maltese puppies) when they were older after they had their first puppy shots. Another from this litter got very sick but recovered with vet care. I just don't know if it is safe to have my babies around her dogs right now. I can't put off the trip but I have thought about taking my motor home so I can leave them in there and not around her dogs. Do you think that would be safe? |
I understand why you don't feel like you can just skip this trip, because I know the reason for you going. However, I would be VERY nervous about having my fur kids around her house and/or dogs right now. I know that you want to be a good friend and that you are going to be supportive but is there anyone at all that could watch your dogs while you are gone?? Tammy |
If you go, please remove your shoes before entering your motor home and wash your hands before handling your dogs...just to be safe. |

Thanks Tammy. I am seriously thinking of suggesting to her that I come down later when I can be of more help to her with the tasks that lay ahead of her. Right now her family from out of town will be with her and when they are gone she will probably be more in need of help and appreciate us being there. Hopefully by then she will have some answers about the puppies. I just wanted some feedback from everyone and I really appreciate it. I just don't want to do anything to jeopardize the health of my little ones. I really want to be there for my friend but I know the babies are my first priority. I will not consider going anywhere and leaving my babies with anyone so that isn't an option for me. I will never consider boarding them since I did that before and my dog was almost dead when I came back from a few days vacation. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me make a decision here. I was so torn on what I should do. |

Jean, I would not take my dogs around her at this time until you know what going on with hers. If she's a friend I'm sure she would understand your concerns about the health of your babies if you put the trip off. Or Do you have a friend or neighbor close to you that could come in and check on your dogs for you while you are gone ?? Also, if you do go... Be sure to disinfect your clothes and shoes you wear as not to take anything back or around your dogs. |

You can still offer support over the phone and go down when you know whats going on with the lost pups. |

Even if they aren't on the scene, if it's an illness, you can carry it back to them. |
