Safest bones for dogs Can anyone recommend the safest bones for dogs. I know rawhides are bad. I try to hold the bones I get from a pet store while she is eating them. I think the bones were made by red barn. They are suppose to be okay for dogs. Does anyone buy them? I get so nervous when I read threads about dogs having problems with bones. Also, recommended sites or places to buy bones? Thanks for you time. |
I like the Merrick's Flossies and another hard bone called N-Bone. |
well you can always go to the butcher and ask for a piece of marrow bone.. healthy... good for them.. but messy :p otherwise sorry i'm no help.. Layla isn't crazy about bones.. but you are right.. stay away from rawhide.. you can try dried pig ears or cows hooves... all natural... good for them |
2 Attachment(s) I have the butcher cut a shank between 3/4" and 1" thick. I make soup or stew with the meat and give the clean shank bone to the kids. They have them laying all over the house. Even Boo the Boxer chews on them and they have yet to do much damage. I took a couple of pics of one of the "favorites". This one has been around for a long time and has some tooth scrape marks. |

I like Bully stix and Merrick Flossies for Lacy, and I've recently started giving her raw chicken necks once every week or two |
Bully sticks are great, but you really don't want to know what they are!!!! |

I buy only beef femur and knuckle bones. I boil them and take off the meat peices and the marrow. Good for the teeth and jaws. :p I don't buy any chew items that they can actually eat. Their food and snacks are enough. |
Good info, I always thought regular bones were unsafe because they splinter but now that I know they arent my dogs will get new treats. |
Thanks for the suggestions! |
I get Nylabones and Booda bones for Lucy. Surprisingly enough, her favorite flavors are Spearmint and Peppermint... and they keep her breath nice and fresh, too! ;) |
