Gettin Nervous! New Puppy (5 more days) I'm getting sweet Jasmine in 5 days.... I'm so excited but nervous with all the dieases I hear about. What can I do to keep my puppy safe? Bacardi my other Yorkie who is 11 years old came with me on a visit to meet her and he just smelled her and ran away. So I think things will be okay with the 2 of them. Here is a picture of her, use link below. I'm not sure how to put images up since I'm a newbee http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i3...6150718482.jpg |
She's adorable! How old is she? What kind of diseases are you worried about? Hypoglycemia? Or things like parvo, and other contagious diseases? |
How old will she be when you get her? Congrats on your new baby. Sounds like it's been a long time since you had a little puppy keeping you up all night and running underfoot all day. They are precious though. Make sure to puppy-proof the house and take lots of pictures to post here. :^) |

jasmine Chanel Bacardi and she also have a myspace http://www.myspace.com/kingcardi http://www.myspace.com/princessjazzychanel Please add them!:p |
Hypoglycemia will be a HUGE issue considering how early you'll be getting her. She'll pretty much need 24/7 supervision, and you'll need to familiarize yourself with the symptoms, and have Nutrical on hand. You don't have to be too worried about parvo, or those other diseases. Just keep her away from other dogs, or anywhere they have been until she has at least her first two sets of shots. Don't let people touch her, because you don't know where their hands have been. |
24/7 For about how long do you think I will need to be with her 24/7? |

i got skoshi at 7 weeks i was with him the first 3 days but then i had to go back to work for 4 to 5 hours. but i would give him nutrical before i left every morning and put some kayro syrup in his water. he was completely fine but he wasnt that small either like 1.7 something like that lol |
Congratulations on your new puppy. 7 weeks is way to young to be getting a yorkie puppy. Is the breeder insisting on you taking her that early? They are still babies at that age. If I were you , I wouldnt take her anywhere until she has had three sets of shots and like someone else said, dont let anyone touch her until they have washed their hands. I know it sounds paranoid but it is better to be safe then sorry. Post pics as soon as you get her. |
My breeder She is an older lady and has been breeding for 10 yrs. She told me as long as the puppy was eating and peeing on the pad I'd be okay to take her home and only under those conditions. I'm really scared now. How old do people usually get them? |

Is it too late to ask the lady if she can keep her a little longer? Its not only your puppy's health thats in danger, but there are also behavioral issues that can stem from being taken from the mother and siblings too early. |
I agree with all that has been said. I personally would never take a Yorkie pup younger than 12 weeks - But, that's IMO. At least have her stay with the breeder until 10 weeks. Trust us, you don't want that STRESS and/or HEART ACHE, God forbid something goes wrong. ;) |
hypoglycemic I got Toby at 10 weeks. He was right at a pound. Within the first week he went hypoglycemic on me twice and almost died. i didnt know about nutrical at that time but i learned quickly about it. he had coccidia which is a parasite and that was causing him to be sick. once that was fixed he never had another problem. I would wait at least another week or two but that is just my opinion. Congratulations on the puppy. they are worth everything that goes into them. |
