molly marie this is my frist post back since my computer died on me... and i wish it could be a good one... but i need some advice. my brothers fiance got a mini daschund as a gift a while back from another guy (eek... thats a whole other story). well anyway.... she was about a year and a half old. my brother got really attatched to her... and she was REALLY attatched to him.... shed follow him anywhere, sleep with him, whine when he left the room. well... at 2am this morning i got a phone call from my brother almost histerical... Molly was missing and there was blood in his back yard. they think she got eaten by a coyote. his fiance and him are devistated... and im not really sure what to say or do. he was so upset.. mostly because he cant do anything about it and i just dont know what to tell him. "im sorry" just doesnt seem like enough. |
Well I dont think there is anything you can say....it's one of those things words cannot take away what he is feeling. A broken heart over a pet is not one thats easily mended. Are they out looking for her? I find the more people try and cater to me the more helpless I felt....I did not want to be bothered and I wanted to be alone...now others may like to be consoled and kept company. I found there was just a certain amount of crying I had to do and nothing was going to stop it. I still cry buy a little less often and I look at pics everyday (they hang in my office) Can you please keep us updated and your brother know my thoughts are with him. |
Did your brother have a fenced in yard that the coyote could have gotten in. It is possible a hawk or other bird of prey could have gotten ahold of it too. They think these little dogs are rodents and steal them. I am so sorry and I dont know what you can say other than tell him how sorry you are it happened. Maybe he can find another one to help heal his pain. I can't imagine having to go through what he is going through right now. |

That is so sad! Tell them to be sure to check the shelters anyway.Just in case he was just injured or escaped somehow. |

Anyway, I hope that your brother's dog maybe just ran away and will come home again. The blood could mean something else, right? The whole scenario is horrible and heartbreaking and I hope they find some peace. |
OMG ! My son has 2 weiners that I adore and can't ever imagine seeing that in the yard :( :( Your poor brother and that poor baby - Can I ask ...did they have a doggie door or something ?? is that why she was outside ? These little ones are such targets for so many things - even other dogs....it may not have been a coyote..... Are they going to look for her ?? I think I would - I don't know if I could live without knowing what happened.....prayers with your brothers family...that's so so sad. |

How horrible! :( I know a new puppy is out of the question, but maybe he could get an adult dachshund from a rescue? That way, it could come pre-pottytrained, used to kids, etc. Its such a horrible feeling to not hear any doggy footsteps in the house, and I'm sure they'd like to have the baby grow up with a dog around. Are your brother and his fiance in the area as well? I had to give up my foster dachshund back to a rescue years ago, and the wonderful lady that took her said that she often had dachshunds in her rescue. I could find her email if you want... Sorry for the loss of Molly Marie. :( |
awww I am so sorry. They must feel sick. Dont give up hope yet. |
Another reason not to ever let your precious ones outside alone. So much can happen to them and in an instant too. |
well... theyve spent most of the day today looking for her with no luck. theres no sign of anything... if anyone has any ideas of daschund rescues around the orange county area please let me know... i think it might be a good idea to adopt one. they still arent giving up hope though..... theyd much rather have their molly back... but if theres no luck, i know theyd still love to have a daschund. she took molly with her EVERYWHERE... yet the one time she leaves her at home this happens. its devistating.... |
There isn't much more you can say, the best thing is to just be there for them and let them know you are there. When I lost my little Summer there wasn't anything anyone could, I had the same type of relationship with her as your brother did. It has been 4 months since I lost her and I am still grieving and it is soo hard. Time will ease the pain for them. One thing I found very comforting to me was to read stories about rainbow bridge, and other stories that help with pet greif. The day after Summer's death I went on the internet and read and read stuff like that. It helped me :) . RIP little Molly Marie. |
