Need help with a serious problem I broke the #1 rule last night; I stuck my hand in to try to break up a fight between JPop & Taz. JPop got me pretty good! My ring finger and pinky on my right hand (yes its very hard to type) have several bites. Thanks to the little guy in my avatar, a stray we recently took in, JPop is being treated for coccidia. Am I at risk since he drew blood? I don't know if humans can catch this or not. What I'm really worried about is JPop's agression. No, neither of them are fixed yet, but you can bet they will be as soon as the vet says ok, after the coccidia (btw, they are all being treated). Will this agression get better afterwards? The little stray, Radar, makes a total of 5 dogs for us. The 4 yorkies and him. 5 definitly was not planned, but rehoming any of them is not an option, but I don't know how to handle the agression. It's mostly JPop and he is the oldest,3yrs, and he was our first. He was an only dog for 1 1/2 yrs, so I know jealously is a big part; but man, I don't know if I can handle this! Please help!:( |
Wish I had advice to offer. I have enough issues with one -- and then God saw fit to deposit the kitten literally at our doorstep last year.:D Getting Ozzie and Toby the Cat (it's been a whole year already) to cohabitate relatively peacefully has been a chore. And there are still some nights that they both get into trouble. Hope your hand feels better and that you get a good resolution!:) |
Cody just had coccidia and I asked the vet that same question is it contagious for humans. NO. its not .. its only contagious for animals if their messing in the poop. |
Coccidia I agree with Amy, I was told no humans cannot get it from animals. |
You can't get coccidia - but watch the area close. Bites are terribly prone to infections. I broke up a catfight (between cats, not women LOL) and had a teeny, tiny puncture on my left wrist - it ballooned up over a weekend, I finally went in on a Monday and was told I could've lost my hand if the infection had gotten into the bone. Ended up in hospital for 2 days getting IV antibiotics! |
Wow! I did just get back from getting a tetnus shot. Was told to soak in warm epson salt water. I'll definitly keep a close watch on it. It's very sore and bruised. |
The cardinal signs of infection: pain, heat, redness, swelling. So keep an eye out for having all four of those! (and that it worsens) |
