I Usually Try to Help With Questions, Now I Have One Maybe some of you remember the "Vets Make Mistakes Too" thread that I posted....Tiah was pregnant and was scratching at her ears...vet gave me OTOMAX...I read the leaflet and found that it would have been detremental to give it to her and could deform/kill the puppies. So, I have been treating them with prox/alcohol. Anyway, my question is might whatever is going on with Tiah have given the little puppies a cold? I have all 4 of them on antibiotics. They sneeze and even cough. I asked the vet how this could happen because I have been SOOOOO CAREFUL, and she said "It just happens". It started with one puppy, but now it is all of them due to the fact that they all use the same utensels at the buffet (LOL). Has anyone ever had little puppies with a cold? They are not terrible, but it makes me worry about them constantly. Please advise...... As you can see by the pictures, it hasn't affected their appetites....all 4 are like little baby hippos! |
I don't have advise but I hope your babies are going to be ok....That's a big worry with little ones and I hope you get some help with this - poor sweeties - hope they feel better... |

I'll probably be back at the vets tomorrow. It was cooler when they were born and now it is so darn hot, wonder if that is what caused it? |

..with us it's usually something we actually caught...but I sure don't know about babies and it sounds like what you said - one caught something, then it passed to the others - hopefully this is minor and will be gone in a few days - but I bet you ARE at the vet tommorrow - that must be exciting - carrying all those babies at once.... how good are their little immune systems at this age ? |
Well, they don't turn 2 weeks old until tomorrow, so their immune system isn't built up that much yet. I don't let anyone else touch them. |
I found this regarding kennel cough - We gave our pups Robitussin DM when they were about 8-9 weeks old. I think they cought the cough at the vet. Kennel Cough; (Tracheal Bronchitis). Symptoms of Kennel Cough are a dry hacking cough and a shortness of breath. Kennel cough is quite common, almost as common as the human cold. It is cuased by a combination of stress and temperature variations. Although the cough may sound threatening, it is treatable with medication. Consult a vet if your pup shows signs of Kennel Cough. NOTE: Kennel Cough can remain in the puppy's system anywhere from five days to several weeks. (treatment is Robitussin-DM, Benadryl, and or Clavamox Antibiotic)If you can give shots, you can almost always eliminate the coughing by getting a bottle of "Tyland 50" from any farm store. Give 1/2 cc shot under the skin in the morning and at night for several days. Don't inject in the same area more than twice. Once the cough is gone, ocntinue the shots for a few more days just to make sure. |
I don't have any advice either, but just wanted to wish your babies well! I'll say a prayer for them! I don't blame you for worrying! Poor little sweeties! |
OMG Laura, I cannot IMAGINE them having kennel cough! If they do have it, it would be from the vets office, but again, I was SO CAREFUL with them! Only time they were out of the box was when the vet picked them up and checked them, they never even touch the table. Like I said, they sneeze (more than cough). It is clear, not green or anything (no sign of infection). When they do occassionally cough, it seems like they gag a little. I will send you a private mssg to help fatten up your little mamma so as not to run on and on here. |
THANK YOU EVERYONE for your wonderful comments....I think you may have noticed they are a little on the "fat" side LOL!!! Oh dear, I'm up to check on the puppies...it's 2 in the morning...I meant to put this message on the bottom of the 2 little fat red puppy picture thread! sorry |
:D :D :D lol |
