my new puppy got sick =( Ok... Sorry to bother ya'll with another question... We got Bubba a few days ago...and today he got sick. My mom is recovering from surgery so Bubba was spending the day with her in her roon. She came down about 20 minutes ago with Bubba saying he had thrown up :( At first I panicked thinking my mom dropped a pill and Bubba had eaten it...but my mom said she didn't remember dropping any pills. Then I thought Bubba must've eaten something he shouldn't of and began panicking thinking he ate something bad. Is there any other reason for a puppy to get sick? I'm so paranoid something's going to happen to the little guy and I'm not sure why cuz I was never this worried when we got our first puppy. What are common reasons for a little puppy (Bubba is five months) to get sick? I took him and sat on the floor and had him eat something...my mom thought it was because he hadn't eaten much all day (we do feed him...he just eats a bite and runs off) so I fed him after he had gotten sick and he ate a good amount of food and drank some water. Right now he's laying down in my bed....he's usually playful. I'm probably panicking over a common puppy thing. Is it possible Bubba ate something he shouldn't of or are there common puppy problems that would cause a little guy to get sick so soon (we got him about three days ago) Sorry for posting another problem yet again -Melissa :aimeeyork |
How old is your puppy??? Could it be from stress. Jewels my girl gets sick during car rides. Is he eating and drinking? |
Bubba is five months...he ate a tiny bit this morning so my mom thought maybe he was cuz he hadn't eaten much. After he got sick I sat on the kitchen floor and fed him myself and he ate quite a bit and drank a little bit. He doesn't seem to be under stress...but then again I dunno how a puppy would act under stress  He just finished playing with me a few mins ago (he has this sock fetish lol :D ) He is acting okay but I'm just really paranoid he ate something he shouldn't of (especially the pill thing...Tyke once found one of my Pamprin and ate it and I have been paranoid about pills being on the ground since...but my mom says she doesn't think she dropped any pills)...if he ate something he shouldn't of would he be acting abnormal? right now he's acting normal...he'll play when i want to play with him...if i put him on my bed he'll lay down. He's not acting lethargic or disoriented. I'm just REALLY paranoid  --Melissa :aimeeyork |
Sounds like something just didn't agree with his stomach but I would keep an eye on him. If he keeps it up I would take him to the vet. |
Sometimes Maggie gets a little upset tummy. If she has spit up at least twice, then I give her 1/2 tsp. of Pepto Bismol, using an eye dropper. So far, that has worked every time to stop her queazy tummy. |

Puppy is sick I suggest you have your mom count the number of pills remaining in the bottle and see if she has the correct amount after subtracting the doses. If that is ok, I suggest you do not continue to "force" feed (kinda). It isn't all that unusual for a puppy to get an upset stomach. When that happens, I boil white rice and chicken breast and give them a small amount, for a day. This is what my vet suggested and it works. His tummy might just need a little rest. Now, if the pill count isn't correct and he starts to refuse food and water, esp water, keep him hydrated with nutracal and call your vet right away or go to the vet ER. I don't want to scare you, but a similiar thing happened to me with Advil. Anytime Chloe is quiet, I start looking, there she was, under the bed, the stinker had gotten into a child proof bottle of Advil. She licked the sugar coating off several and of course I did not know if she ingested any of not. She acted fine so I called the vet the next morning and she told me I should have acted sooner because of possible liver damage, long term. I learned my lesson on that one. Fortunately, her labs were ok, so she did not actually eat any. However, I trusted my instincts when I could have let it go because Chloe didn't even act sick. I'd rather spend the money and be sure. I never put my purse on the floor anymore either. |
Has our baby started to feel better? I would check with mom but not put too much emphasis on the "ate a pill" thingy. Your mom already feels bad about being sick, and about the puppy vomiting. She is sure to blame herself a little even if she doesn't say so. I would watch Bubba, make sure he is drinking peeing and pooping and eating on his own. If you get into the feeding him by hand too much, you could get a bad behavior started. It sounds as if y'all hae your hands full, and Bubba just might be stressed and not showing major signs other than the vomiting. Call your vet tomorrow a.m. and give them the info and see what they say. Check temp if symptoms continue and also Pepto as directed..Keep us in the loop about both... |
Bubba seems to be okay right now. He was playful later on and now he's kind of worn out (well it IS midnight!) I'm still a little edgy though. I'm paranoid, I guess  I was really worried about the pill thing. Our other dog (Tyke...a seven year old Yorkie) once found one of my Midols on the floor and ate that (guess he had puppy cramps :p although he's a male  ) and we ended up at an animal hospital to get charcoal in him. When Bubba got sick I was so worried he got a pill that fell on the ground (my mom's on Vicodin and Motrin so that would NOT of been a good thing! ) or found something that he shouldn't of and eaten it. He did eat a little bit that I fed him...and then later tonight he ate on his own and drank. He did go to the bathroom (just not where he's supposed to  training is something in and of itself! ) I'll be able to breathe a little easier if he is acting okay in the morning. On a positive note...Bubba barked for the first time! :D At my feet  Now the only problem is that whenever I am walking, he is trying to pounce on my moving feet and barking like crazy at them! As far as Tyke getting along with him...grrrrrr If Bubba is on my mom's bed, then Tyke's under the bed. Tonight I spent almost an hour on my stomach trying to coax him out! I try and hold them together so they can sniff each other...Tyke will turn his head the other way. ::sigh:: You gotta love them though :D --Melissa **sorry again for posting so many notes within the last day (problems with dogs getting along, puppy being sick, puppy only liking me)...just wasn't sure what to do** |
I'm glad your little Bubba seems to be doing better! It seems lots of Yorkies vomit every now and then and most of the time, we don't have an idea why. Hopefully, Bubba will be great in the morning and you can put your mind at ease. I don't blame you for worrying...we all do over our little yorkies! Best wishes to you and also wishing your mom a quick recovery! |
Sorry to hear Bubba got sick |
If he just threw up maybe he a) ate something he shouldn't have, b) should eat something that he should, c) overexcited about being with your mom. If he doesn't have diarrhea and is drinking and eating he will be fine. Just keep an eye on no-nos on the floor (even a dust ball!) Good luck! |
Im so glad Bubba is feeling a bit better :) Also, glad to hear he barked! I remember Lucy's first bark, so high pitched and pathetic! lol! :animal-sm |
AWWW poor little guy, sorry to hear about that. I hope he gets better! :) |
How's Bubba Feeling Today (Monday) How is your little pupster feeling today? Did you switch food from what the previous owner had him on? If so, you have to do it slowly in order to make a complete change over. Remember too, Yorkie puppies need naps. They are normally very VERY energetic....I would love to have just a small fraction of it! LOL Please let us know how he is feeling. Hope all is well. |
