Okay, so I feel bad about leaving Chloe alone....
 
Hi everyone! I don't know if you have the same problem as I do. I do work and I have to leave Chloe in her kennel (a hard shell traveler case) all day. Whenever I leave for work, I just feel bad for her. :( I feel like I am a bad mom and leave my poor baby home all alone. I don't feel comfortable leaving her wondering in the house alone either. Do you have any suggestion?? Do you guys leave your baby in his/her kennel when you are at work? Or you just let your baby wondering around the house on their own? I read from a Yorkie book, there isn't a necessary to buy a huge kennel for them since they only stay at one spot? It will defeat the purpose of a kennel if it is too big? (since they want to feel safe in their "house") I was thinking buying a bigger kennel (the black steel one)? But is it necessary? Chloe tends to only stay at one spot and sleep when I am gone. Do they play with their toys when we are not around? :confused:

I would get a pen if I were you so she has room to move around and play with her toys. Seems like keeping them in a crate for that many hours is not a good thing. Do you have a kitchen or something she can stay in while you are at work?

well for chubby i just started to work so chubby stays in his crate which is one of those big steel one and he's less then 4 lb... i believe its like 36' and i have on one side a couple of pillows so he lays on and his food and water and other side he has a litter box which he uses. now that i just got him a 2 months old maltese sister i had bought a 30' steel crate for them to sleep on and in the 36' i just left some pee pads, the litter box, and food and water

Hallee is crated when we are gone. We have the bigger black one because it was given to us. She has plenty of room for her bed, some toys and water and little food. Probably really too big for her, but she has so much room, being only 4lbs. She does not go potty in her cage. We used to put pee pads in there but she would just shred them to pieces. I come home at lunch and let her out to go potty. Gracie on the other hand gets to roam part of the house. My hubby made our own doggy gaets that swing open and shut and of course latch out of oak. Gracie has access to computer room that Hallee is crated in and our bedroom. Hallee is the trouble maker and gets into everything. Gracie will follow her into trouble. We can trust Gracie not to get into anything. For the most part, I think they sleep all day. We have thought about doing the doggie cam just to spy on them to see what they do all day.

Unfortunately, I have an open kitchen style. So, I can't put up a gate. I used to let her have one of the bedroom upstairs with pee pad inside. (She was 9 months old already at that time and pretty much house trained already, but she just moved in with us.) She tore up the whole pee pad and made a mess. So, I didn't let her free roam around the room or house anymore if I am not home after that incident.

A litter box? Aren't those for cat?? I didn't know we actually have one for dog? I tried to use pee pad before and let her free roam in one of my bedroom, but she just tore up the whole pee pad into pieces and made some mess....I might consider to buy a steel one....

Why not get a puppy gate and block her into one room? They are dirt cheap at Wal-mart.

haha, silly me. I was like.."a pen? why does she need a pen??" haha, I googled it and found out what it was really. :p Chloe can jump very high (sometimes I think she is a cat more than a dog bcoz of how high she can jump up and down!!) So, I think she could just jump out a pen.....What size do you guys recommend for me to buy for Chloe? She is around 6 1/2 lbs.

Which one do you think is good for Chloe??

Tried that once and didn't think she liked it much!! She thought we were locking her in the room!!!

I use a wire playpen in my kitchen for Izzie while I'm at work during the day and also night time for sleeping. She has her potty pad on one end, food/water/bed on the other and plenty of toys to keep her occupied. You can get these in different heights if their is a concern with the jumping.

We have a couple of x pens that we can use together or not, inside or outside, because my little sweeties don't always come when called, especially outside:rolleyes:

We crated our Poodle when she was young and even though we stopped four years ago and took the door off the crate(plastic kind)-she will still go into her crate when we leave. It proved to me they do not look at a crate negatively. We would love to get it out of bedroom but she loves it.

Now for Kiwi, we started with a crate but did not follow through. So we bought a tall metal pet gate-it opens like a regular door-has bars on it and is up to my hip. We put that on our bedroom door and if we leave- the dogs stay in the bedroom-we close bathroom and closet doors and check that there isn't anything they can get into. We bought the tall door because our neighbors had a small kiddie door and unfortunately one day they came home and their baby pug was hanging by the collar on the door-he choked to death.
We do not leave Kiwi with a collar on in the house either because of this.
Here is one site that sells the metal gate-it comes in three sizes-we bought the one that is 41 inches high.
