No dogs allowed! I was just browsing some ads for cabin rentals, and saw the "no pets allowed" bit in the ad. So I was wondering, how do most of you deal with things like that? If your yorkie is housebroken, do you ask places if it is okay to bring your dog--explaining that your dog does fine, and risk them saying no, or do you just do it? This is the first time we have had a dog, so I've never gone to stay anywhere with her. Just thought it would be interesting to find out how others deal with "no dogs allowed!" |
If it was a place I REALLY REALLY like to go to, I'd just not mention anything at all. I mean, if you bring a playpen or even a crate, they're really not gonna do any damage (to furniture, etc) anyway. My husband and I were looking at beach house rentals down south and most of them say ''no dogs''. It's not fair! yet at the same time, I don't see my Daisy as a typical dog that they're talking about. Daisy, or yorkies for that matter, are happy and content in a pen or crate (not that we're gonna keep them in there..lol) and therefore should be allowed. I think it's really up to you to keep it to yourself (not consider lying) and not tell them about your furbaby. Nobody will ever know... There's my opinion! |
Try this website for dog friendly places: http://www.petfriendlytravel.com/pet...US/New_York/NY ound. Just find your destination and see what's around. I think the Marriott takes dogs. A lot of places will take small dogs, even though they don't advertise as dog-friendly. |
If my dogs are not allowed then I don't go. ;) Anytime you travel, just look up dog friendly places for that town. |
I *try* not to sneak, but I have been known to do so on occasion. I have found that normally when they say "no pets" they mean larger dogs. Most (not all) make exceptions for tiny dogs. One hotel manager told me that if it can be carried in something that looks like a piece of luggage then they have no problem with it! |
I'd call and ask. You don't want to just BRING him and then get kicked out or fined, and you would be bummed out if you don't get to go somewhere! The worst they can say is no, and then you're not out anything since you weren't going to go if you couldn't take your dog anyway. Sometimes they'll make exceptions for small dogs like yorkies. Also, explain to them that you take your dog everywhere, and that he/she will be in a playpen or in a crate when you're not there. They may allow you to bring your dog, but may also charge an extra fee for you to have them there. You might also offer to pay a refundable deposit of $100-$200 to help them decide to allow your dog to come there. Your confidence that your dog will not destroy anything, and that your dog's behavior is good might help you get them allowed in the cabin! Good luck, and let us know what happens! |
Don't hotel managers know the difference between a dog and a "furbaby"? Yorkies are furbabies, therefore excluded from the "No Dogs Allowed" rule .... |
We always ask first and stay where they are allowed. I would never "sneak" my dog in anywhere. Especially after our experience in Minneapolis. My daughter booked us a very nice room at a beautiful downtown hotel in Minneapolis. She got a special rate because her company used it regularly. She checked first to see if our Yorkie would be welcome, and with a deposit, it was fine. On Christmas day, we had plans to serve breakfast at a shelter where Sophie would not be allowed. So we put her in her travel kennel (our mistake, she doesn't use that one much). When we walked out of the room, she began crying, loudly, and she didn't seem to be ready to stop anytime soon. It was about 7:00 a.m. We left my step-son there with her, and all was fine. Needless to say, we don't "sneak" her anywhere!:) |

It can't hurt to make a phone call explaining that your pup is fully house-broken. But it they say no, I wouldn't try to sneak him in. |
Hi Misty! I wouldn't take the risk of sneaking Chloe in it would be such a bummer if you are caught. Cabin huh? Where are you going? Sounds like you are planning some fun! Check out www.dogfriendly.com for cabins that allow dogs in the area you are looking to go. Or here's another idea.... Rent a mobile home! Good Luck! |
Bengi likes to bark so I know that sneaking him in is not a good option. I would be uncomfortable and tense during my stay and I wouldn't be able to relax. But even if you dog is quiet, you never know what can happen, they can find him and kick you out; but if that ok with you, you know, the adventure of having to find another place in the middle of your stay, do it. You never know how people may react; some are ok with it when they see a cute little doggie, but others go nutts. I would ask before hand if they would accept him, otherwise I'll find a pet friendly place where I can have peace of mind. But that's me... :) |
I usually try to find a place that does allow dogs first. I have snuck Lacy in before though. We have a timeshare at condos in Branson and they don't allow dogs, but we took her with us once when she was 6 months old. |
I would never sneak them in, just because I don't want to get kicked out and would be a nervous wreck. A lot of times if you explain the dog will never be unattended and offer a security deposit of usually up to 500... most rentals will allow dogs. We just went to Nantucket and it said dog friendly, but we have 4.. so w/a 500 dollar deposit we were good to go. We made sure to take pics and do a walk through with the owners as well to ensure we will be getting back our deposit w/in the time allowed. |

hahaha! I TOTALLY agree with that!!! :D I just wouldn't leave my furbaby in the hotel room by herself..I'd be paranoid that some evil member of the staff (i.e. :cleaning personnel) would steal her. lol. But I'd def ''sneak'' her with us if we were to go away for a vacation! Besides, my Daisy's rather a quiet one so she wouldnt even be noticed in her carrier (which looks like a small luggage bad). :) |
Keep looking...... I'll bet that you will find a cabin that will allow dogs. Sometimes they are just hard to find. Good-Luck! |
