got a question about merricks flossies I just bought the girls some of the merricks flossies...they look like a long curl. This is the first time I have given them to them. I didn't think they could break off peices? Well, they can...is it ok for them to swallow that? I am just concerned about choking. Thank you |
Merricks flossies are my favorite type of Bully Stix to give Lacy. What do you mean they break off in pieces? Lacy has always chewed hers down well..sometimes stringy pieces come off or tiny soft pieces but they don't break off like big pieces of rawhide. I know nothing is 100% safe so I like to supervise her when she's chewing anything, but I feel like bully stix are pretty safe. They are 100% beef so are very digestible, unline rawhide. I just make sure and throw the bully stix away when she chews it down to a small piece so so doesn't choke on it. |
I've never had a problem with Flossies. Seems they soften up enough for safe swallowing. The only thing is when they get down to the last 1" or so I take it away....just afraid they'll swallow it whole. |
Thanks ladies! They don't break off peices but, when it gets soft they like pull peices off...one that Lillie just pulled off was not just a small stringy peice...it was a pretty good size but, she swallowed it. I don't ever let the girls chew anything without me around..I am so afraid of them choking. Thanks for the response! |
My 2 absolutely love the flossies! (I now buy them in bulk from Amazon.) But I've never really seen them break into "pieces"...They just get stringy sometimes. I do throw them out when they get to be about an inch (which is why I buy so many now). Similar topic...does anyone have a good place to buy them in bulk? |
I won't give my dogs anything chewy like these, rawhides, pigs ears, hooves, cornstarch bones, etc. because that can happen! We stick to Nylabones and Kongs with stuff inside. That way, I know they can't choke. We had a pretty bad scare with Emma once, and luckily my husband can think quick on his feet-he saved her life by getting a chunk of rawhide out of her throat. I haven't tried flossies or bully sticks, I don't think it's worth the risk. |
I have tried many different types of chews and they all scare me unless I am holding them for Kiwi while she chews them. When they get little I throw them away. I do this because she bit a piece off and swallowed it whole. When I tried to take it from her she ran. She started coughing and it must have went down. I can't take the chance again so I hold the chews for her-which she prefers-she brings them to me and scratches my hand and drops the bone in my hand. So adorable. My husband will hide his hand in bed sometimes because he gets tired of holding them. We only give them the chews at night in bed. It is their special time. |
