Hmm, I think where I live is fine?? I am not around other dogs much AT ALL. Chloe is my first baby :p How do we know if our babies get fles and tick? And not just they scratching their bodies? :confused:

Ozzie gets a bath every week or so. (Usually once a week during the summer. Less often the rest of the year.)

He gets wiped down and brushed and dusted with baby powder daily. His face and backside get wiped as needed. (His face is usually one or two times a day in addition to his nightly wipedown. He's very messy.:) )

I trim his nails about once a month and his ears as needed.

If your dog has fleas, you will most likely see on one her...especially on the belly since they have thinner hair there and it's easier to spot them. Your dog will also be scratching and you'll probably see flea dirt (little black specks). With ticks, you'll feel them if you run your hands over their bodies. Lacy has never had a tick, but they are quite a bit bigger than a flea so you'll be able to feel and see them easily.

Baby powder? Do you mean like what we use on baby? I thought it would make her face white and she might lick it?? Do you buy bath wipe to wipe your baby? Those are expensive if we use daily?? If there some other way we use wipe our baby with a more economical way?:confused:

Yep, I mean baby powder!:)

And I also mean dusting ... just sprinkle some on as you brush. There won't be anything there for her to lick -- and she'll smell good enough to eat!:p

I don't buy any wipes -- except Viva paper towels!;) A drop of Jergens bath wash, warm water on one or two of those and wipe, wipe, wipe.

Everyone has excellent regimines here and finding the one that fits best into your schedule, and is adaptable is the best one for you..I'll just share what we do here....First we live in Texas and its hot and humid here..I change mine some in the cooler months....
Daily:Brush coats, this helps also keep odor away. Wash beards and bums.Redo top knots....(they love love to be brushed..I can have the brush in my hand and Yogi will drop and lay on his side with his face to the floor waiting..he usually goes to sleep..its also good for their temperament,it relaxes them...kind of like a massage.

3x weekly...clean teeth with doggy toothbrush

Weekly: Bathe (with a good dog shampoo & cond. Blow dry (with a round brush of course:D )

Monthly:Trim coats ends, trim nails, Heartguard for Heartworms, Frontline Topspot for Fleas and ticks...in Texas, everythings big...even the fleas and ticks. Good luck with your baby...Your going to a terrific Mom!!!

I've heard that talcum powder can cause health problems in humans, I would assume that would also apply to our doggies. Most people now use non-talcum baby powder. I always make sure I buy the Pure Cornstarch baby powder instead of talcum powder. I know a lot of us grew up w/ talcum powder and we're just fine (as far as we know) but I figure better safe than sorry.

Everyone's suggestions helped SO much!

I've had him for about 2 weeks & since then YT has been like a Fairy Godmother, LOL!

Bobby's getting used to having his ears & eyes cleaned slowly but he likes baths!

Oh man!! I just bought a baby powder!! But it is Talc powder!!!!!! I saw one with cornstarch and I thought it was bad since it was corn!! I thought corn was bad to have in the dog food.....ahh..I guess I have to return it and buy a different one!!

I was in Petsmart once and the trainer told me to use a vanilla extract?? Have any one tried it?? He was a good experienced trainer too...just feel odd to use vanilla extract thats all....

What did he tell you to use the vanilla extract for?

I was looking something to help with the dog smell. He suggested me to use few drops of vanilla extract, rub it into my hand then rub on Chloe.
