Few questions..please read :) Heyloo everyone! I was wanting to know how long any of your yorkie girls are in heat for? We never got a chance to get piper spayed yet and she went into heat about 2 weeks ago, and im wondering when its going to stop because she is spotting everywhere and humping the cat,lol. Other questions are about training sprays for chewing and pping on things. I was looking around petco and petsmart and saw a few products that deal with trying to stop dogs from chewing on things and pping where they shouldnt. I wanted to know if any of you use ANY products like that, which ones, and if they work. We are moving soon to a new apartment and I dont want piper peeing all over the place again. We are trying the puppy pads but they only work sometimes. Please let me know asap :) thanks so much!!:aimeeyork |

I have a little boy Yorkie so I'm no help in terms of the heat cycle question but as far as sprays go... I have had luck with Grannick's bitter apple spray to keep Tucker from chewing on everything as well as with Four Paws Repellent for Dogs & Cats. The Repellent spray keeps him away from things I don't want him near like certain chairs he likes to scratch or under the computer table. I have not had luck with the Simple Solution Potty Training Spray like many others have. It's supposed to show the pup where to pee but Tucker was not drawn to it at all. Hope this helps! |
Clear deodorant works well for not chewing. Just roll it on wherever you do not want the puppy to chew. It also lasts longer than bitter apple spray. |
That is 21 long miserable days when you have unneutered males in the house I might add. (Miserable for me, not the males) |

We used a no-chew spray, and it seemed to work well. I lent it out to friends too, and they had success with it. It wasn't bitter apple-I heard some dogs actually LIKE bitter apple. It was a PetSmart generic no-chew spray-I think it cost about $8 for a hairspray sized bottle, and we still have a ton left-we bought it when Emma was a puppy a year ago, and sprayed just about everything in sight! I have used the stuff that you spray where you WANT them to pee, and it totally doesn't work. Don't waste the $ on it-You'll have better luck moping up some of the pee with the pad, and then trying to get them to pee on it again. Good luck! |
I don't use any sprays, and my yorkie is actually a male.. but I do have a jack russell terrier at my parent's house named Bella who is not spayed and actually just finished off her last heat cycle. Dogs are definitely in heat for a long time...3 weeks sounds accurate (my dad wants me to go get her spayed already because she spots alll over the kitchen floor for the longest time. poor dad...surrounded by my mom, my 2 sisters, me, and Bella. ALL GIRLS! My boyfriend & Luigi-my yorkie, are his only male acquaintances that come around the house a lot haha) Ok, but ANYWAY...they only get it every couple months or so...so i guess it compensates for the time span. |
