Brown pee My little yorkie is peeing brown sometimes. It's not all the time and he's been to the vet and was treated for a bladder infection. But it isn't constant and he isn't in pain. Could it be allergies? Could it be a reaction to a cleaner? At a loss....please help if you can. |
A brown color is generally caused by blood. There could be infection or a small stone. Was your baby re-tested for bladder infection after the antibiotics were completed? Sometimes they need a couple rounds of medication before the infection completely clears. |
It's not every pee or the first pee of every morning, its only when we stay over night at my boyfriend's place. That's why I haven't gone back to have Aspen tested. Aspen is jealous of my bf, and every morning we wake at his place he pees brown. the rest of the day he is fine. and its only on nights we stay over.....that's why I was wondering if it could be an allergy to something. |
I agree, brown colored urine usually means there is blood in the urine. Dogs or cats will not act sick. It's a natural instinct in them so they don't appear weak to their predators. So even if your little one is not acting like he is is pain, he could be. Call your vet and ask him if there's anything to worry about. |
I agree with everyone as well. I got scared when brown pee became red spot pee. I took him to my vet and did x-ray and found 2 particles in his bladder. They cant determine till they do a ultrasound. It is definately some kind of stone. Dr. said it can be either: (1) "Struvite" bladder stones which can literally be treated medically with a food called Hills S/D. or (2) Calcium Oxalate - only treatment for these uroliths is surgical removal. They suggest my little one do a cystotomy. And found out that it was a Calcium Oxalate. Now he is on a S/O Diet (Royal Canine Urinary) type of diet. i dont want to scare anyone but you can check out the link of the surgery and information on bladder stones. http://lbah.com/canine/urolithiasis.htm#symptoms |
I hope your little guy gets better! |

I hope you get it figured out soon. Just a thought. You said it only happens at your BF's house? Is there something there he could be getting into and drinking/eating??? |
Have them do another urinalysis and urine culture...They need to check for crystals.... |
This is not normal...My yorkie gets crystals/stones, and if your little guy gets blocked up, it is going to be very serious. Maybe it's just a UTI too. |
I don't think it really matters when or where this is happening. It is still happening and I've never heard of allergies causing brown pee and I'm sure he isn't getting into something everytime. Please take him to the vet as soon as possible. |
