Duvet Dangers Hi everyone - I just wanted to relay a story that happened to my sister's roomate's doggie. My sister's roomate - we'll call her 'Jane' and her Yorkie, Toby normally sleep in bed together. It just so happens that Jane woke up and heard Toby crying but couldn't find him under the covers or under the bed. She got up and shook the covers and heard him again. She looked a little harder and found Toby - he managed to crawl in the duvet and couldn't get out. Fast forward like 1 week, Jane wasn't home and my sister came home from work. She heard Toby crying off in the distance - went to Jane's room and couldn't find Toby. She finally saw the duvet moving and there was Toby. He had once again crawled in the duvet and couldn't get out. He was gasping for air. Not sure if this has happened to anyone here, but thought I'd post it as a little note of caution. Beware of the duvet! PS - A duvet is the cover that goes over the comforter...my sister didn't know what it was called, and it occurred to me that others may not either. ;) |
That is a good warning   - especially for those with these type covers who leave their dogs out during the day...I used to have a cover just like you described and never thought it was a danger - course back then I didn't have yorkies either ....they love to dig so this is really a good post. |
Thanks for the reminder...We've been looking at getting a cover for ours but maybe I'll try to think of something else now. |
Thanks! I recently got a Duvet and it never occured to me they might do this. They love to lay on top of blankets, but not under them. It's not unusual to find Loki in a pile of warm blanlets from the dryer. Stuff like this, the stuff you don't think of, is one of the 2 main reasons I crate them when I'm not home. We don't both leave often, but when we do I know they are SAFE in their crates! |
Wow thanks for that reminder, I would not have known what that was either, |
There is an easy solution to this....just make sure the open end is at the bottom of your bed that way they won't get caught inside. |
