Just got a new Yorkie, couple of Questions I just bought a Yorkshire Terrier puppy (from a petstore) I know its bad, but I just have a few questions. I have been researching her pedigree and also got her breeders usda inspection report. In her pedigree everyone except her mother is AKC registered, which doesn't make sense to me because if her mothers parents were why wouldn't she be? So my first question is does anyone have the name "Country's Doris June" in their dog's pedigree? and has anyone ever bought a pup from a breeder Robert or Brenda Wilkinson out of Arkansas? Also puppy is healthy and has been to vet and I was wondering if anyone uses Revolution for heart and flea control? Its both meds together so I was thinking of using it for my pup but not sure if it is good. I've heard of Frontline and Heartguard. Any help would be great. Also we have 2 7 year old Yorkies and the male is adjusting fine to the puppy but the female is growling and snapping at the puppy everytime she walks by, any suggestions on how to get the older dog to warm up to the puppy? |
Hi and welcome to YT I know you can get all your answers here. |
this is all i can say.....you purchased her from a pet store (which you already know is against most peoples ethics due to that they most likely came from a puppymill) this is probably the reason for the poor pedigree. their might have been mixes and poor breeding that is why they are not registered. females tend to be more territorial so you are going to have to be extra careful with the puppy around. fights could start. don't leave the puppy alone for one second or she could get hurt. some people here use revolution but i only use advantix. since you have the other two dogs, i would use the same flea medicine you use on them and the same heartguard medicine as well. |
ohhh welcome to yt. |
i get advantage multi (imidacloprid+moxidectin) puppy kit from my vet, it protacts against heartworms and fleas |
Welcome to YT! Sorry I can't answer any of your questions...I'm sure someone will be able to. :) |
Thanks so much everyone. Our other two Yorkies both use Revolution so I guess I should also use that with our new puppy. Yes i know that getting her from a petstore is unethical but from the inspection reports that I ordered through petshoppuppies.com it seems that the inspections were good and that the facility only had 2-4 dogs on the given years so I feel somewhat reassured that she is fine. And as for the pedigree there is only 1 non-AKC registered dog in the 4 generations that I recieved so I'm assuming that either the owner of that dog didn't register her for some reason. I don't know. After I purchased her I read all kinds of bad things about puppymills and I was disgusted, and I will never buy a dog from a pet store again. I wouldn't give up my baby Lucy for anything now, but i'm disgusted that I helped support these inhumane mills by purchasing my puppy. I guess I'm lucky that she is in excellent health, eats and drinks regularly, and is taking to house-training well. She has been peeing and pooping outside and has only had 2 accidents once she pooped in her cage in the middle of the night but barked and woke us up afterwards so we could clean her cage and take her out. Yes we never leave her unsupervised for her protection the older female is very jealous and has already snapped at the puppy, of course the puppy was stalking and barking at her. |
puppy mill Yes you did know it's bad to purchase from a store but I am torn on the subject myself. as these puppies also need a loving home also when it all comes down they are alaive, here, and the deals with the mills have already taken place....nothing you can do about that. I feel in a sense it's "rescue" because if you didnt buy this puppy what would happen to her? So you will never get a thing out of me about where you got your baby. Congrats on her! I use revolution on my youngest and will switch my adult over when she finishes this pack of interceptor and frontline. He is doing well on it and it really did not make his hair greasy like frontline did. Its a dryer liquid not oily. I agree with Lisa her pedigree is prolly messed up due to the fact she came from a mill. I doubt the parents listed are even her parents. Things are done so unethical int hose things. You can trace and trace and trace but are the results your find going to do any good? no. Your baby is not breedable, you have no idea who the parents are, and it would be a great injustice to his/her babie being you have no idea what her blood lines hold and what health issues may be bred into him/her. I commend you for saving a baby, your doing the right thing joining here and getting advice! There are wonderful people in here with miles of knowledge. Best thing you can do now is have your baby spayed or neutered, take them to the vet regularly, and love them with all you heart! |
Thanks, I like to think that I did rescue her. But as far as breeding her that is something I would never do, shes strictly a member of the fmaily. |

Welcome and please show pictures of your pups and new puppy when you can. We love puppy pictures. :) Just from experience until your female gets use to the new puppy, you need to keep her seperated unless you are present. When home and outside try to play with them together so they can get to know each other better. They will start fighting and your puppy cannot defend itself against an older pup right now. I went thru the same thing with Kodak, he is 3 and my pup is now 7 months old. They get along so much better now but he can still be territorial. He also has just start letting her play with his toys without growling or snapping at her. You really will need to show your older female that you are the boss (alpha) of everyone and let her know you are not happy when she growls. Good luck. |
Congratulation on the new pup, hope all goes well. There could be a number of reasons why your pups mom was not registered. She could be registered with another registery, or not registered at all. Where did you get the pedigree from? Do you have any papers at all on your pup? If this pup is not registered it brings the value way down, if you ever breed her. Hopefully with this questionable background she will be pet only. Just enjoy her, give her a good home and lots of TLC. She deserves someone like you to take her out of the misery she most likely has experienced in her short life. Yes, I use Revolution on all of my 12 dogs. I have used it for years and it works great. I like using one item to take care of a multitude of proplems. |
Welcome to YT!!! What's your pups name? There is a lot of information here to soak in...You could always use the search feature regarding some of your questions, it is really helpful. Enjoy your your new baby!!! |
2 Attachment(s) Her name is Lucy she is 2.5 months old and weighs 2.7 pounds. The papers that I got is a Certificate of Pedigree. I attached two pictures--her colors say she is black and gold. Our other two yorkies are both blue and gold but our female Yorkie (12 pounds a little overweight) has like reddish/tan hair and black not the silvery look our male has, its very weird. |
Lucy is adorable...thanks for sharing pictures!!! |
