Car Sick... So, my bf and I took Chloe to Chicago two days ago and on the way there...Chloe threw up! She was car sick!! Arghh!! I left her in the hotel room when we went out, she didn't like it very much either. She never bark when we leave the house, I did't know why she bark like crazy in the hotel!! |
My Alyssa used to get car sick every time when we would travel to Florida. The vet can give you medicine to help prevent it. We started taking Alyssa on more short trips and also bought her a car seat so she can look out the window. She seems to do so much better in a car seat and where she can see where she is going. We also try to make going in the car a fun experience. Now all I need to say is "go bye'bye in the car" and she is ready to go. She loves riding. Also, when you left your dog at the motel she was probably afraid. It was not her house that she was used to and she started to panic. She probably thought you were abandoning her. She wanted to go too and be with you. I am sure you were having more fun than staying in that dark motel room. |
Zsa-Zsa used to get car sick EVERY time we got in the car. :eek: I bought her a car seat and every day took her to the car and just put her in the seat and sat in the drive with her for a week for 10 min. Then we she tolerated that I would start the car - then drove around the block - then took a 30 min trip and finally she no longer gets car sick. It took some work but it was well worth it. She rides like a dream now. Good luck |

I dont have a car seat for her, but i lay her on my lap?? Is it okay? Or it will make her sick still? I dont mind buying a car seat for her, but I don't like the idea she is riding at the back and i can't see her?? Any other solution? Or it is not a good idea to lay her on my lap?? (I am not the one driving, my bf is)... |
Stella also had a problem with car sick. The vet told me to give her 1 ml childrens Benadryl 30 minutes before leaving. She rode on my shoulder 4 hours (with exception of potty breaks) without a problem |
I'm always concerned when i see pups loose or on laps in cars. Braking hard or being in an accident can cause them to fall to the floor, hit the dash board or even go out a window and be injured or killed. I read an article about giving different meds to help them with nervousness and it stated that when medicated dogs tend not to be able to balance well and when cornering or stopping they can loose their balance and fall so pls make sure your pup is secure when medicating. I dont think theres an easy solution, however in my experience I've found that with patience, practice and providing them with a sense of security they stop being car sick. |
