Need Advice: Kamari is hacking like a cat. Hello everyone, I need to know if anyone elses pup has had this happen. Kamari had been gagging almost like she had a furball in her throat. She always has these little stuffed animals in her mouth carrying them around and I thought the hair was accumalating in her throat. Then I thought it was just a hair ball or grass because she's always eating something off the ground.:mad: I have to literally catch her and reach in her mouth and pull stuff out.:eek: I finally took her to the vet on Saturday because she was hackling thru out the day. The vet checked her throat, gave her a shot, then took her temperature thru her butt. He then gave me some Clavamax (white liquid drops) that say amoxicillin trihydrate clazulamite pottasium drops. I give her those twice a day. He said her mouth was to small to get his finger in to see if something was lodged in there. He says it appears to be an infection. Has this happened to anyone else's puppy?:confused: |
I took Molly in and told the vet it sounded like she had a hairball. She had a temp, and he told me that she probably had some drainage and was gagging on that. So I guess she just had a little cold. He gave us some white drops to take twice a day for 14 days. She stopped the hacking in 2 or 3 days, but we kept up the meds for the full 14. Hope your baby's better soon!! Carla |

O yes this happens to London...well it did and it turns out she had a little cold and i had to get antibiotics for her. It went away but now once in a while she will make sounds like she has a hairball in her throat and I massage it.. I figure it's cause she is always sniffing off the ground |
When our babies get to coughing we usually get the amoxicillin from the vet. They usually end up throwing up yellow bile also. Any time me or my hubby get a cold they end up sick too. We are constantly checking to be sure they don't have any hair in their mouth. One time Gracie was hacking and we could not find anything so we called the emergency number and took her in to the vet. She had a very long clump of her hair wrapped around her back tooth and it was hanging down her throat. He had to somewhat put her out to get it out. She was not all the way out, but was very limp so he could get inside her mouth. Can not be too careful. Both of the dogs willingly jump in the chair for us to check them to see if they have any hair in their mouth. I think they know we are just taking care of them. Heather-Mamma to Gracie and Hallee |
Thanks for the replies, she has been ok today and hates the medicine but she didn't hack today. She has never thrown up anything so I haven't seen anything come out. It's just the thought of her choking is nerve wracking but like ladybugg said, we can never be too careful about our furbabies. |
I had the same problem about 2 weeks ago with one of mine. The Vet said it was bronchitis and gave her a shot and the treatment of Clavamox 10 days) He also gave us some cough syrup for 5 days. Well, it seemed to work; she stopped coughing almost immediately after the shot. We finished the Clavamox on Sunday. Two days later, she started to cough again. She is still coughing. It isn't as much as before the antibiotics but definitely more than I would like! Should we go back to the Vet? |
