Should I interupt? Paddington is not neutered yet, but I plan on getting him fixed this month. He is four months old, and has begun humping his larger stuffed animals. I do not want this behavior to continue or develop into something he does frequently. Should I stop his humping when I see it, or just let 'im at it? My mom says it's a natural thing and just let him get his puppy frustrations out... I don't want him to think it is appropriate. Having a pet that humps is embarrassing... my cat used to hump blankets on the couch, right in front of company all the time! No one ever wanted to use the blankets or pillows in my house (for very good reason!!!!) -O |
I always made Bentley stop, I would give him a little spankin and say NO (Well scream NO!)! I didn't want him to be doing that. It actually got so bad, because at first we let him, that he started humping arms and legs and feet.... So I'm glad we got it stopped, he hasn't done it in soooo long. Good luck! |
Yes if you dont want that behavior (as it will only get worse).. you need to stop him with a stern NO.. Princess used to hump but after a few NOs and a light tap on her bottom, she quickly understood.. now she doesnt do it at all.. maybe once every few months and then I just give her "the look" and she stops.. good luck! |
Anytime my parent's yorkie, Rylie, would hump things they always tell him No. Even though he and Lacy are both fixed, he still tries to hump her sometimes. We always tell him no. Of course we always laugh first... he just looks so funny trying to hump her because he's shorter than her and her gets so worked up that he just pants and pants |
It can also hurt them if you don't stop them. I have read threads where one yorkie's manly parts were rubbed raw and another where they were bleeding. |
No if you dont want hm to do it stop him and tell him no. It worked with My Chachi who continued to do it after he was neutered. |
I just found Max's Teddy who he humped till the stuffing came out. He's been neutered (Max, not Teddy) and mounted Teddy, humped for a few seconds and then just wandered away. I felt a little bad for him. He used to really enjoy himself. I would have stopped him if he hadn't been neutered. |
female does it...eeeewe I have a 17 wk old female who does it! She has this Anne Geddis bunny with a human baby face. It is really creepy. Hoping she stops when we get her spayed at 7 mo. |
Jaxson does this a lot and at first I was alarmed. I asked my vet and she said that it's just a "dominance" thing and it should be ok. Just as long as he/she is not humping people, I wouldn't reprimand them. They are just trying to tell their toys who's the boss : ) Hope this helps! Samantha and Jaxson:animal-pa |
Since you're planning on having him nuetered and not use him for stud it's best to stop the unwanted behavior. Now if he was going to be a stud dog, you'd have to be very careful in stopping him. He may not perform when you want him to |

Tucker tried to hump my arm once and I just firmly told him no and then did not let him get in a position where he could do it again. He hasn't tried again although he is neutered and has been since we got him. He doesn't hump his stuffed animals but he pretty much will try and hump any dog we come across big or small...sometimes he settles for a leg or back...it's embarassing/annoying but I guess he just needs to prove his dominance! |

The first time he did it, I about had a heart attack. I was like, whoa, you're too small to be doing that!! |
