What material to use? Our new apt has a balcony. There are rails that go all the way around. They are close enough to the floor that the girls cannot fit underneath, but the spaces between the rails are large enough for Penny's head to fit through and Riley's entire body! Riley particularly likes to lean out through the rails. It makes me nervous, and therefore I can't allow them out without supervision. I would like to put some kind of attractive material maybe a foot high all the way around so I can allow the girls on the balcony to sun while I sit inside the door and work. Does anyone have suggestions for something attractive and affordable? |
it's not attractive, but... I found some fabrice netting made for stair rail guards online. I tied it to the top and bottom of the rail so no puppies can fall over. OR what about lattice? or are the holes still too big? deb |

I don't know of anything that is attractive but my cousin had the same problem with her apt and her dog sticking it's head in between the railings. One day her dog's body went through the rails and lucky for her she had a harness with a leash on. After the incident, she bought a baby gate at wal-mart that can extend up to 96" and used that to provide some coverage. |
How about lattice? I'm not sure if it's expensive, but it can be pretty attractive if done right. They're like white, criss cross things..I'm sure you've seen them. You can do an image search for them on google for ideas. |
now is a good time to find screening to protect gardens... this is whaat I have around my picket fence(Hope could squeeze out) I bought it in the garden center at Home Depot... There are also some of the short picket fencing that you can buy that should be smail enough....good luck! d |
I think Walmart has little sections of picket fencing you could wire them together. and there's always the trusty chicken wire. |
What about putting an expen out there against the rails?? |
I sorta have the same problem!! I thought about using plexi glass(sp?)?? |
My husband used plastic lattice for Conner's pen (white). It is attractive and washable. He got it from Home Depot. |
I used the lattice around my deck because the puppies were going under it but when they were pretty small they could still crawl through the holes. Not sure how small your puppy is but I was going to say chicken wire to. Maybe you could spry paint it to match the railing so it wouldnt be so noticable. |
Thank you all so much for your suggestions! You really got the wheels turning in my head. Here's the post about my solution: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...ewpost&t=85363 |
