Getting a new dog...breeder wants to sell at 7 weeks? 1 Attachment(s) If you don't think Heidi and I should get another dog, please save those opinions here...we're going to get a female dog this time to accompany Tanner. It should give him great company during the day and at night too. It's not for breeding purposes...they'll both be fixed. Anyhow...question: Breeder originally was going to sell these puppies for 500 bucks...which is a pretty typical price down here. That's what we got Tanner for, actually. She is marking the price down though, because she really wants to sell them, to 400 dollars. That's a price you can't argue with. The problem?? The puppies were born on 5/17. She said that she turned 6 weeks last Thursday...since we'd get her next weekend, she'd barely be over 7 weeks at the time. The conundrum here is that she really doesn't want to hold them....I didn't ASK her, but her comment about wanting to unload them leads me to believe she really wouldn't want to hold them for a few weeks. But on my side, 400 dollars is a GREAT deal for registered Yorkies. I even got pics...I'll post the pic she sent me of the one I'd want here. So...advice? |
That is soooooo sad! I hate greeders. There is NO reason someone should sell a pup of that age. My puppies are hardly eating hard food at 7 weeks old. If you get her watch her very careful and make sure to give her nutrical too. That is just WAY too young for a pup to be away from mother and siblings ours never leave until they are at LEAST 10-12 weeks old. PS She is cute! |
Personally i think the whole situation is a red flag. The breeder is selling them very cheap. She doesn't want to do whats best for hte puppy by keeping them till 10-12 weeks. And you said she wants to 'unload' them which means she doesn't care where they go or with who. i wouldn't buy from this "breeder" |

I think the thing here may be that she just doesn't know...she seemed extremely nice....so I don't know that it's greed here...she may just not be used to having babies in her house...either way, I want to know if getting her at 7 weeks is feasible... |

I agree that 7 weeks is too young especially for a yorkie. Are you even sure she has puppies or is it a scam artist trying to "unload" your wallet. No reputable breeder would see their dogs at 7 weeks. They are still babies then. By the way I thought you were banned. Did you change you name a little since I see you only have 1 post? |

I mean they can ban me again if they like, but if the welfare of a dog is at stake here...I don't see why they would. This is a legitimate question. |
I think 7 weeks is way too young to be away from mommy and litter mates. I'm not a professional and I hardly know much about the entire breed so maybe someone else can better answer your questions. |

Plus, she's really young and tiny, and she'll need constant supervision and several meals a day, for several weeks, which you cannot provide. (I'm not trying to be mean, just trying to point out the flaws in this plan.) Is she AKC registered? Or another registry? She's a cutie, but I'd try to find a good breeder to support. |

I don't think you want to deal with the expense and mess of a sick puppy do you? What about crying all night for her mom? A baby that young would have to be watched all the time for hypoglycemia, maybe handfed...etc... Nope, not a good plan for your lifestyle. |
I would definitely ask her if she would keep the puppy until 8 weeks or so or find another breeder. Most breeders I know don't let a puppy go before 10 or 12 weeks and only a few let them go at 8 weeks. |
I think they should stay w/ their mom until 9 or ten weeks, honestly it makes a better dog they are more confident. I think its great that you are getting a 2nd one that is what I did it really helps |
I got Otis at 7 or 8 weeks. At the time, I wasn't educated enough to think there was anything wrong with that. I think it sounds kinda shady. Have you seen the parents? She looks awfully cute, but reducing the price AND wanting them gone so early.... I don't know.... |
