Yorkies no matter what size are wonderful!!! Don't be alarmed. Mine is 7 months now and last time he was weighed he was almost 5 pounds. but he is sooooo light to me and feels skinny. think about it....most of our dogs weigh less than a newborn or even premature baby! It's amazing to me that dogs so little can survive sometimes! All that matters is that they are healthy and active. people come in all shapes and sizes and so do dogs, even within the same breed. |

You're puppy is very average. But, remember in this yorkie breed the only thing that you can count on is they'll make a liar out of you every time. |
Maddie was about 3.5 pounds at 12 weeks. She is about 6.5 pounds at 1 year, 5 months. Though she isn't small for a Yorkie, people are always commenting about how small she is. |
I've had pups 2+# at 8 weeks.. I had two boys my friend bought and they were about the same size.. One is now 3# the other 7#... My friend likes the little bigger one as she's afraid of the smaller one getting hurts.. Usually yorkies have their structure time the are 6-7 months old but may gain more weight. The fastest weight gains is from birth to 8 weeks then they start to slow down.. That's why the can look so tinny at birth and a week later look like little pigs.. they are so round and fat you just want to eat them...:) :) :) I just love to smooshie them when they are like that.. they have great puppy breath tooo... I wish I could bottle it..:D |
mine is 18 weeks and is 1 pound 13 oz |
Your yorkie is a very healthy size! He'll still be very small dog, and just as cute! I hate when people come on here asking about their average sized yorkies, and people respond by telling them how abnormally small their yorkies are without offering any input on the yorkie in discussion. |

But on the other hand I can understand, so many pet owners just want to share their furkids. |
Sometimes I wished mine was about 7lbs. When he's shadowing me and I take a step back and step on him he screams like a 2 year old getting a paper cut. So BIGGER is BETTER! I'm thinking yours will be between 7-8lbs full grown. |

Good Luck predicting a Yorkies weight when a year old. You will be rich if you do!! |
13 Week Old My Shiloh is 13 weeks old and she still weighs only 1lb 3 oz. |
Chewie is 15 weeks, he'll be 16 next week. I took him to the vet last week and he was weighing in at 5.5 lbs. When we got him (at about 11 weeks) he was 2 lbs. I was amazed how much weight he put on within a month. I don't over feed him either. It is what it is, I guess. If I were to double his weight at 12 weeks that would mean he will top out at 4-5 lbs. Well, he's past that lol. I think he'll be more in the 7-8 lb range if he levels out soon. There's really no way to tell when he'll stop growing. Maybe he's gaining it all fast and will level out at 6 mo. Either way, it doesn't really bother me. As long as he's healthy, I'm happy. I think he's perfect. I was quite annoyed with a couple at Petco the other day, they had a small Yorkie under 4 pounds. They pointed their noses up at Chewie and said he was too big, he must be a Silky. Whatever. It seems like people are so obsessed with Yorkie size. Everyone is always asking me how much he weighs. When I tell them, they say "he must be full grown". No, I assure you, he's still a puppy. I'm so over the comments and we haven't even had him 2 months lol. |
When I got my Lou Lou I saw her parents who were probably 7-9lbs...but she just grew and grew and grew to a lovable 17lbs !I am glad that she is chunky as she holds her own and is the boss of my 2 irish red setters...I regard her as my Marilyn Munro''' |
When I rescued Gizmo from an unethical byb who was starving him, to try to make him small, he was only 1lb 4ozs, but you could see every bone in his body. By six months, after he was nice and healthy, he was 5 lbs, and now at 8 months I think he's probably still just over 5 lbs. so he has totally leveled out on growth, but I'm so happy he survived and is within standard. I would like him to get a bit bigger, and hopefully he does. He is very short and stocky like a little body builder :-) around where I live here in so cal, near a very wealthy area, I have seen far too many tiny yorkies less than 2 lbs at our park here at the beach, and I have to hurry and go the opposite direction, because I just get sick seeing those poor pups, knowing that is what Gizmo was meant to be. I would love him no matter what xoxo |
