My boys are a little over due for their shots. Otis has recently developed liver issue's. I have an appt on Monday for them, but I'm seriously thinking about cancelling them. Otis is definatley not getting his because of his liver. Oliver is 2 and I'm not sure I'm going to get his either. The more I read about it, the more I'm thinking, NO. The vet's receptionist was quick to point out that it the Law. I would hope my vet will understand about Otis. I wonder if they say they won't see Oliver unless he gets his shots. My boys are only outside in my fenced in back yard and only around a few other dogs they have known since I brought them home, and it's not very often. Good Thread, I'm not sure there is a clear answer, but I'll be following it. |

The distemper shot is the dlpt or something like that. I never give lepto. My vets office had a notice in their office stating their new policy based on a lot of research. |
My original yorkie was nearly 20 years old when I had to make the decision to put him down. I believe he may have been in the vet's office three times in the lifetime that I had him. He was an inside dog and I didn't see why he needed all these shots. When there was something wrong healthwise which was the few occasions he was there, I made sure he saw the vet. Other than that, he lived a wonderfully long and healthy life without all the things the vet will tell you he needed. The two dogs I have now pretty much go on the same as needed pretense. They started out with all these shots, etc. and then I started to feel that the vet was out for the money. I'm in the process of looking for a new vet for several reasons also. I really think that a lot of vets push things for revenue and not for the well-being of the dogs. We just have to be careful of the vets we choose and it sounds like everyone here is doing just that. |

I don't think annual shots are necessary and the same goes for humans. When humans get vaccines, their body start to develop more T cells and these T cells works better the second time the body comes into contact with a particular disease because it has already been exposed once (via vaccines). The same goes for animals. They can't become more immune to the shots. The only shots that was given to my yorkie are rabies and it lasts 3 years. |
