OK So i have been thinking I have had Armani at the banfield pet hospital since I got him, and its proven to save me money. However, I only talked to the actual vet only once. He did fine with getting his shots, twice he was fine after about 4 hours and only had a bit of diarhhea. One of the times he had his shots tho he was miserable, wouldn get up to eat, just laid there. I thought he was dying, rushed him to emergency they said he just had too many shots in one day. i was ready to kill them! But they also took care of his giardia really well. ITs like sometimes they rock and sometimes they suck. But quite honestly I am not willing to take that "Sucks" chance. SO after this year is over and my contractual agreement with them is done i will find a new vet for ARmani. One that will be personal and one that I can actually talk to each time. Sorry just had to vent, my boyfriend thinks I am thinking of excuses not to take Armani in for his rabies shot lol, so he wont listen to me. I knew u guys would understand tho! |
I think it is very important to trust your vet, so I think you should change. We just recently moved and I didn't want to hand over my records to the first vet I saw...I wanted to make sure we had the right one for us. I told them that right up front too, I'm sure they thought I was a nut, but I think it is soooo important to have one you feel good about and really trust. |
I agree...Miko(he has serious liver issues) used to have the most expensive plan with Banfield so that we could have all his bloodwork, urinalysis, and all that done for a monthly fee instead of a huge hit all at once. We would do the tesing there, and take it to our regular vet whom we trust. But we never did shots or anything there. Only bloodwork and urine testing. |
I understand what you mean. I'm really, really nervous about Otis getting his shots. He is liver compromised although I haven't had testing done to determine if it's shunt or MVD. (Can't afford it just now) So, I'm struggling with getting his shots, and heartguard as I'm pretty sure he' not going to do well. Good luck with Armani. Does Banfield have more than 1 vet? Maybe there is a different one there you would like. I've never realized how important having a great, caring Vet is. |
How do you know your baby has liver issues :( |
Paula, just ask them not to do all the shots at once. And have them do the shots early in the morning so that you can monitor him and bring him back in if he has any problems at all. There are natural options out there for heartworm...Check in the files section of the liver shunt group. How old is Otis again? |
Why do yo have a contract with your vet? Is that a healthcare plan or what? I have never heard of this. Please enlighten, |

Is heartguard not good for a baby with compromised liver? |
I have no idea lol, curious tho why u are asking!!!... r u getting that little baby with the compromised liver? |
Heartguard is not totally safe for dogs with compromised livers, but if you must give it to them, they recommend it be given every 6 weeks instead of monthly, and Not the Heartguard plus, just the regular one. |

But they do seem to charge a lot more for things that do need to be done. For example, a fecal test costs somewhere around $40 at the Banfield where I used to get my yorkie's blood tests done whereas at most vets offices, it's under $20. The contract mainly says that you can't cancel, and even if you decide to not use their services anymore, you have to continue paying the monthly fee until the year is up. |
