Is This dangerous?? Hi all, I have not been here in so long and have missed my YT family greatly. I wont go into why, but I am glad to be back....and I have a question! I have recently put down some "ant cups" under my kitchen sink because I was getting BIG black ants in my house! You know how they work right? The ants eat the poison and then bring it back to their nest and they all die......well, I was wondering if my babies would get sick if they came across an ant that had eaten the poison and was on their way to their nest.....the ant has the poison in their mouth probobly right? Im wondering if my babies got ahold of one of those ants and GOD forbid! Ate it! Would they get sick?????? There is NO way that my furkids can get at the ant traps themselves but Im thinking that the poison is in the ant and if they ate one or something would they get sick? |
I have heard those traps are poisonous to dogs, but I dont know about the tiny bit an ant would pick up. Id try to google this and see what you find out. Either that or give your vets office a call! They should know! welcome back :D |
I heard the same...they have them at my work so I am always leary of bringing my dogs to my work...... |
i am not sure, but if i were to guess, they would only be in trouble if they got into the actual thing, i dont think one little ant with that tiny amount of poison could really really hurt them. i know this is a silly question, but how many ants do you think they eat?? i doubt 1 or 2 would hurt, but if they were eating a lot a day maybe the build up would be bad. |
poisons should never be around any animal, here are some natural suggestions Diatomaceous Earth Diatomaceous Earth! This stuff is wonderful and it's safe. It is a powder that comes from the skeletons of a class of algae called diatoms. You merely sprinkle the powder where you have seen the ants and its kills them by drying them up. I have even read lately that it is safe for pets to ingest, to kill intestinal parasites (although I don't know if I would recommend that just yet). I have used it in my home successfully against ants, and I keep cats, birds, and reptiles, none of which suffered any ill effects from the DE. You can purchase DE at a health food store, natural gardening center, or even one of those large home centers (I recently saw it with the bad pesticides at lowes). http://www.stretcher.com/stories/980528a.cfm some ground up mints work as well.... hope this helps |
