Brushing
 
I want to start brushing Bella at an early age, to make it easier when she is older and her hair is long. I bought her a very soft brush....but she still goes NUTS when I try to brush her!!! I am very gentle with her, and pet her and love on her....but as soon as I pull out the brush, she turns into ATTACK DOG, lol. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

:laugh: Happens to me too. She bites at it and sneezes the whole time I am doing it - no matter how nice and loving I am. It's just necessary, and I make sure I give her a very nice treat after so she will forgive me :)

I started with a brush but after Harley hated it I went to a comb, and all three of my babies are OK with it. Don't get me wrong, they don't come running when I get the comb out, but at least I can groom all of them in about 20 minutes. Just try a comb...maybe it will work for you too.

Do they make "doggie combs", or do I just get a people comb?

the first time i attempted to brush my boy bite me which he had never done before, but i continted to do it and have everyday now, the first week he acted like i was huring him but now he just sits and seems to enjoy it.

I have found that anything she doesn't like or resists, I can do much easier at the end of the day after she is exhausted. She is much more amenable to brushing, having her ears checked, etc.

They do make doggy combs. They are silver and kinda long.

Also, Turbo hated being groomed too. I think part of it is to see what they can get away with, just like kids! haha. I also would pick his front paws up in one hand and brush him out with the other. For his chest/neck area I will lightly hold his beard hair to keep him from wheeling around. For the back legs/butt area, hold just in front of his hips. He is great about it now and actually likes being brushed! I think he likes looking good. Egotistical! haha.
